Has anyone started an online petition to CNN to fire Santorum???
They could start that he is so ignorant about the use of CPR he is a public menace. There are many possibilities.

DU is public menace.

Did Trump take the day off?
Maybe they can do a survey and come up with some phony bull shit to pin on him. Kind of like the Russian collusion investigation.

I've been trying to get Fox to dump Juan Williams for years...he still stains the screen.

I'd rather see Shep Smith get booted. He is openly biased and doing a news show not an opinion show.

I'd agree with you on that. Wrong (Juan) Williams is on an opinion show (The Five) and routinely is counterbalanced by Kimberly Guilfoyle and Greg Gutfeld.

Could it be that Santorum was talking about the use of CPR in emergency situations other than a shooting? The construction of his sentence, as quoted by CNN (not a trustworthy source when accurately and fully quoting a conservative matters) suggests Santorum was not speaking narrowly and solely of a shooting situation.
That said, why do DU-folk object to high school and maybe Jr. High students being taught first aid, including CPR? I could be wrong, but it seems to me that having several CPR trained people in an electrical shop or PE class or on the swim team or ... might be a good idea.

I can't stand him. He has to disagree with EVERYTHING, no matter what And he is butt ugly to boot! :thatsright:

They do have a point. Traumatic CPR IS almost useless. Everyone would be much better off learning how to control bleeding (Shameless Plug: National Stop The Bleed Day is this Saturday. Find a class and learn how to save a life) over CPR, since the survival rate for people receiving CPR for trauma is less than 2%.
That being said, even that 2% is a greater percentage than are killed with those evil black rifles...

Somebody had to fill the large shoes of Alan Combs.

They have a point IF Santorum was ONLY talking of shooting situations. Reading his words, I'm not sure he was (or was not). DU-folks' and similarly-minded(?) Progs' vast over-reaction is as amusing as it is predictable.

Yes yes yes! An online petition! Gloria hole and her new friend Ben timover have been laying low for awhile

DU is public menace nuisance.
Being a menace implies they do something and, ... you know, ... DUmmies.

So has Pat McGroin.

In the words of a crusty assed SFC... all bleeding eventually stops.
And yes... stop the loss of blood would ultimately be more effective.... and instead of CPR he should've said "first aid." but FFS, they act like what he said is tantamount to increasing the body count more than if nothing was done. "Well there were 5 dead and 15 wounded, then they started CPR and then there 20 dead and additional 20 wounded.
I get the DUmmies jumping to condemn him... you know... a conservative spoke... or something... but all the docs? Maybe, I am just old school.... but don't you only do CPR ...if they already do not have a palpable pulse? Well, he was only pulseless dead... until CPR, now he is dead dead.

Hey! I am that crusty SFC now, and I say that all the time.
What I said about Traumatic CPR is straight from the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care guidelines. The only indications for traumatic CPR are electrocution, drowning, and casualty lost vital signs en route to the medical facility. All others are wasting their time.

Oh, I get you... (I retired as that crusty SFC) ... I also said do something, even if it's wrong. And Quoted the Ranger Medic [name escapes me right now] " there are people with wounds that no matter what we do, that are going to die... there are other people with wounds that no matter what we do, they will live... we have to worry about is the people where we do the right thing at the right time they'll live..."
My point was... doing CPR isn't going to "hurt or kill" one of these victims. It probably won't save them... but if they have enough RBCs to perfuse the brain for another few minutes it may just help.
Massive bleed, those RBCs are gone quick... I get it...
But
Do something ... even if it's wrong
And again... He should've said first aid... but they attacked him like he had said..."shoot them in the head so they don't suffer anymore."
Ya know?
On edit *stupid phone*

When I was in high school back in the Mesozoic Era, we were made to take CPR courses, not optional. These courses were operated by the Red Cross and always included other basic first aid such as compression and/or tourniquet for bleeding, how to splint a broken limb if needed, how to put together an ad hoc litter to carry an injured someone out of a situation, etc. No one was learning how to do a thoracotomy in the field or anything like that, but we were certainly learning enough to know how to stop someone from bleeding out from the femoral artery in such a situation.
Of course, this was all old hat to me by high school because I had learned all of this in the Boy Scouts, back when that institution was still worth a shit.
Interesting stat I heard about a week ago on the radio: something like 90% of all shooting deaths occur not from organ damage, but instead from bleeding out within 4 minutes of being shot. Now, of course, a lot of that is internal bleeding and there's not much anyone can do about a shredded aorta with just everyday items laying around, but there are plenty of cases in which a student and/or a teacher could jump in with the right training (and it's pretty simple training, all things considered) and keep someone from bleeding to death before the ambo gets there.

From what I've heard, Juan's own children think he's a left-wing nutball...

24.3% of penetrating trauma deaths are preventable. 90% of all preventable penetrating trauma deaths are due to exsanguination (bleeding out), 8% due to airway obstruction, and 2% due to tension pneumothorax. Of that 90%, 67% are due to junctional and torso bleeds. And most mass shooters are not carrying the kinds of weapons or exhibiting the accuracy needed for 100% kill rates, meaning most of the wounded have preventable deaths.

So, then . . . a tourniquet (or two/three) would be a good EDC item(s)?

One dot I've not seen connected in the Las Vegas shooting is between the guy's use of a bump-stock and the "venue" he chose. A bump-stock, as I understand it, shoots lots of rounds quickly, but not especially accurately. The concert into which he fired was a densely massed crowd, from when he started shooting till when many/most people had managed to get clear of the seating area. IOW, the density of the crowd made the poor accuracy of his weapon "system" unimportant. He didn't care where he hit people, as long as he hit lots of people. And by hitting lots of people he overwhelmed first responders, probably resulting in some people dying of otherwise treatable and survivable wounds.

Pretty much exactly that. In an actual combat situation, your machine gunner isn't looking to kill mass numbers of people, only to fire into the mass of the enemy. For every casualty that is wounded, at least one-two more are taken out of the fight to care for them.
In LV, the situation was a little different. I've seen the view of that area from the 63rd floor of the Mandalay Bay, and while the shot would be doable, it's at least 400 yards from the hotel to the concert venue. Definitely a spray and pray scenario, which wouldn't necessarily be helped by a bumpstock.
