'Anti-Vegetarianism Is Sexism in Disguise'

. . .

Quote
Vegetarian” is not synonymous with “holier-than-thou”; in my experience, the opposite is true: It’s meat-eaters who are more likely to do the condemning. And then to accuse vegetarians of condemning them. It’s classic deflection, textbook self-victimizing, a transparent disguise for selfishness. It’s what many of Trump’s supporters do to Trump’s detractors. Instead of owning that their politics are self-serving, they attack those who suggest that their politics are self-serving. And consider the feminized insults they sling: if we disagree with Donald Trump’s tax plan, with his unwillingness to fight climate change, with his refusal to denounce neo-Nazis, we’re “special snowflakes,” we’re “triggered,” we’re “irrational libs.” They don’t say, I want my taxes lowered, even at the expense of those less fortunate.

In America, according to a study cited by the Huffington Post, 59 percent of vegetarians and 79 percent of vegans are women. No wonder so many seem so concerned about what we’re eating or not eating—people have always enjoyed chiming in about what women should do with their bodies. And with Trump’s ascent, those voices have gained steam: In today’s America, you can brag about grabbing an unsuspecting woman’s vagina and become president. The most anti-abortion-rights politician in the country can rise to the vice-presidency. Woody Allen can voice sympathy for Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby can do “town halls” to teach young men how to shield themselves from rape accusations, and Matt Damon can tell us we’re overreacting about men patting our butts at work. Harmless as it seems in comparison to rape apology, anti-vegetarianism is also sexism in disguise. Not even a convincing disguise. It’s sexism in a man bun.

"Our culture feminizes compassion. It also masculinizes meat-eating. So we’re easy targets."

There are many tools to choose from if you want to threaten those who are different from you, whose ways you might not understand—whether they’re women, members of the LGBT community, immigrants, people of color, or people who simply don’t eat the way you do. You can tease them. You can call them ****s. You can work to undermine their rights. You can shame them into silence. You can disguise your aggression as concern, the way this article questions the safety of vegetarian pregnancy, or the way this article ties vegetarianism to mental illness; the latter article’s subtext is this: “Vegetarians are crazy.”

Or women are.

To deny that veg-shaming is vag-shaming, to deny that meat-splaining is man-splaining, reeks of the “it’s not that she’s a woman, it’s that she’s careless with her emails” argument. Case in point: Under the Huffington Post article about the male/female vegetarian ratio, a male commenter wrote, “Because women are emotionally irrational.” Another wrote, “So glad I was born a man. Enjoy your beans and salads, ladies.” And a third man chimed in with the most well-crafted and honest response: “Vegetarians scare me.”

What’s scary, really, is the idea in the ether that compassion is effeminate and thereby un-American. “Socialist.” “Stupid.” “Snow flake-y.” That destroying the environment is man’s God-given right. That black lives should remain inferior to white lives. That refugees are terrorists. That immigrants are criminals. That sick people are scourges. That women have victim complexes and their concern for their safety and rights are invalid. That steak is patriotic.

1. There's been a recent attempt by the alt right to push the idea that soy turns men effeminate

Quote
“Soy Boy” is a pejorative which is often used in right-wing online communities to describe men lacking masculine characteristics, bearing many similarities to the slang term “cuck”. The term is based on the presence of phytoestrogens contained within soybeans, which have led some to conclude that soy products feminize men who consume them.

Origin

According to a study by Canadian researchers published in November 2009, soy products contain the second highest relative phytoestrogen content after nuts and oilseeds.[2] In April 2010, an article by Dr. Mark Messina of the School of Public Health in Loma Lina, California revealed that soy consumption has no effect on the levels and quality of male sperm.[1] The earliest archived use of the term “soyboy” as a pejorative on 4chan was submitted to a thread on the /tv/ (television & film) board on April 18th, 2017 (shown below).[11]
...
On October 3rd, the @CernovichNews[8] Twitter feed posted a photograph of a group of late night television hosts captioned with the Urban Dictionary definition of “soy boy” (shown below, left). On October 16th, Redditor _PM_Me_Boobs_plz submitted the “Pajama Boy” photograph of Organizing for Action employee Ethan Krupp in a post submitted to /r/The_Donald (shown below, right).[7]
...
On October 26th, conservative writer Will Sommer posted an article titled “How ‘soy boy’ became the far right’s favorite insult” to Medium.[3] The following day, Mic[6] published an op-ed by writer Chris Caesar titled “How ‘soy boy’ became the alt-right’s new favorite insult.” Also on October 27th, The Daily Dot[9] published an article titled “‘Soy boys’ is the far-right’s newest favorite insult.” On October 30th, Redditor EmArKay_11 submitted a photograph of a man wearing a long knitted cardigan titled “The return of the soyboy” to /r/malefashion,[10] where it received upwards of 800 points (96% upvoted) and 50 comments within four days (shown below).

Vegans and vegetarians often eat more soy, so this gets tied in.

How could we have ever allowed ourselves to think you're a bunch of limp-wristed effeminate sissies?

Soy Boy.  That's okay but not good enough to adopt into my personal rotation of insults.  I would probably only use it once or maybe every once in a great while.

Around the turn of the century (1999-2001) I was a regular poster on a homeschooling discussion site that was part of a larger Veganism site. How that Vegan site came to have a homeschooling discussion board along with a discussion board for their lifestyle and activism, I do not know. My guess is that homeschooling was popular among vegans, and the board grew well beyond that core of vegan users. Though it didn't show that often, the vegan members and mods dripped moral superiority when member accidentally (or unknowingly) violated one of the prime rules of the place: Thou shalt not mention meat, animal products, restaurants that serve meat or animal products, or (sometimes) stores that sell meat or animal products. Keep in mind, vegans not only avoid meat and leather, they also avoid animal-exploiting products like dairy & eggs, gelatin, and honey.

As a result of this non-vegans could not freely discuss things ranging from certain kinds of field trips to nutrition and meals to buying shoes and accessories. A field trip to a pizza place or a dairy or a cheese making plant? Nope! Recipes that include butter or honey? Nope! One slip-up resulted in a very tart remark from one or more moderators plus a few vegan members. Needless to say, newbies who assumed ordinary courtesy was the rule of the place got a smack-down within a few weeks or even a few days.

I would not say all vegans are that sanctimonious and obnoxious, but they are "out there", and they are not rare.

For the terminally curious, that is the one discussion site from which I was banned, without warning or explanation. The best I can figure out is that my "sin" was mentioning the first name of the owner/Admin of another largish "competing" homeschooling discussion site. The name of the site from which I was banned is VegSource.com. Over the years, their RYO SW homeschooling discussion site got hacked to Valhalla a couple of times (hence my distaste for RYO discussion board SW) and (probably assisted by a few obnoxious members) dwindled to the point where, a couple of years ago, the only posts less than a year old were spamsters. Sometime last year I looked in, and the several homeschooling boards had been shut down. Nothing lasts forever, though that other homeschooling discussion site is still up and still helping new and experienced homeschoolers with their problems and questions.

I would not say all vegans are that sanctimonious and obnoxious, but they are "out there", and they are not rare.

Hear, hear!
You'd be hard- pressed to find a vegan who ISN'T sanctimonious and obnoxious.
Most of them instinctively portray all non- vegans everywhere as sociopathic monsters who hate all animals, and/ or as disgusting obese slobs about to have a heart attack (Meanwhile, nearly all vegans I've seen look like emaciated sacks of bones). btw, anyone remember that story from 10 years or so ago in which that idiot vegan couple caused their infant son to die of malnourishment as a direct result of their forcing their veganism on him?
Just a few examples to prove this:
1. PETA is absolutely defined by how sanctimonious and obnoxious they are. They have openly compared non- vegans to cannibals, and demanded that the town of Turkey, Texas change its name to "Tofurkey." Unsurprisingly, the town's leaders told them where they could stick that demand.
2. Then, of course, there's the patron saint of sanctimonious, obnoxious vegans, Paul McCartney. He self- righteously refused to give Weird Al Yankovic permission to record a parody of his song 'Live and Let Die' called 'Chicken Pot Pie' because the song involved eating a meat product (Never mind that Yankovic himself is at least a vegetarian, and while he didn't record the song out of respect for McCartney's wishes, he performed it live a few times, and you can listen to part of it on Youtube). He also, being the champion of liberal tolerance that he is, once fired two of his roadies for committing the heinous crime of eating hamburgers.
3. The DUmp is jam- packed with threads in which the vegan DUmmies wallow in how sanctimonious and obnoxious they are, especially in the ways I described earlier. Here are just a few examples:
https://conservativecave.com/cave/index.php?topic=103625.0
https://conservativecave.com/cave/index.php?topic=106732.0
https://conservativecave.com/cave/index.php?topic=85057.0

Meanwhile, tonight, while the vegan primitives are choking down their vile- tasting tofu and kale, I'm thinking a nice canard a l'orange on a bed of brown rice with some chopped zucchini on the side, and on Superbowl Sunday, I'm thinking of making my barbecue hamburgers (They're called that, but they're more like sloppy joes than like hamburgers). Both dinners will taste even better by my imagining the vegan DUmmies going ballistic over the sight of it.

I noticed Bill Clinton was not included in this list nor was his rape-enabling non-president wife.

That's because soy contains phytoestrogens, which has been shown to cause feminine features to be expressed in males through rigorous clinical research, you idjit.

I will dumb it down for them. It causes bitch-titties in men.
