Did Obama do poorly at Saddleback?
I did not watch it, but from what I can put together, Obama gave thoughtful and honest answers, but stuttered and hesitated too much. McCain gave politically polished answers and sounded more sure of himself and sounded more charismatic. Is that a correct assessment?

2. That is the way I saw it.
McCain was good, too good for an old guy with a memory problem.

3. he did well, but that idiot Warren was biased against him and it was meant to play to wingnuts.

4. McSAme gave "polished answers" ??????
Wow.
Senator Obama did just fine.
McSame was given preferential treatment and knew the questions beforehand.
Just wait until they REALLY debate!
Uh-huh. Just wait.

18. I did not see the whole thing
But yes he did seem polished in the bits I saw - for whatever reason.
And sometimes Obama is not such a smooth talker. There are hesiations and gaps and etc. I figure it's because he actually thinks as he speak sand not everything is a sound bite. He is also probably concerned about misspeaking and having the r/w all over him.
And now I suppose that makes me a GOP die hard McCain fan.

5. He didn't do poorly to normal people....only to those who breathe and live to emulate our corporate pundits. For those who didn't know Barack, and who are Christians who may have had doubts about him, he did well for himself.
But yes, to People Magazine readers, he wasn't as smooth as they would have ordered.
In constrast, McCain was too rehearsed and robotic and trying too hard for the pandering and the laughs, so he didn't help himself at all.

6. Obama had a thoughtful conversation with the host. McCain treated it like a campaign rally.
If you were looking for depth and real thinking, Obama won by a landslide.
If you were measuring by short talking point answers designed to get huge applause, McCain won. "I'll track down Osama Bin Laden to the gates of hell!"

7. Obama did very well. He may have pulled some undecideds.
McCain was doing his stump speech and talking points. War war war. He may have scared off some undecideds.
Primitive whistling past the graveyard.

8. No. Not at all. I thought he did great.
It was just that McCain came out smoking and seemed to have all the right answers and had the crowd going orgasmic.

9. If someone was honestly looking top compare the candidates, Obama did very well. He listened to the questions and gave actual answers. For a lot of the viewers, I think Obama proved that he is not a scary person.
Of course the guy with the big floppy ears isn't scary, and he's rapidly becoming a comics-book character.

10. Yes, I saw it the same way you did.
It was a win for McPain. Happily, his apparent cheating as well as the questions of plagiarism will probably do enough damage to offset anything he might have gained from it and then some.

12. Well, given the media coverage is whether McCain was honest re getting the questions....
I would say McCain did poorly.

13. It was major home field advantage for McCain.
He could have told rape jokes and got an applause as long as he followed it up with "I am pro-life".

14. I watched it and I didn't see it that way. Barack did give thoughtful answers.
He obviously THOUGHT on each one of them. McNut shot from the hip, and answered the questions with what he knew THAT audience wanted to hear. Like When does a fetus get civil rights? He answered "At conception". When asked what SCOTUS would not NOT nominate? He answered "Ginsberg, Bryer, Stevens, & Suter." When asked if evil exists, and if so how sould we deal with it: ignore it, negotial it, contain it, or defeat it? He answered "Defeat it!" EVERYBODY KNOWS you have NO CHANCE to defeat evile everywhere! But THAT audience LOVED his answers!
It's a wonderful bonfire, the Obamaites falling all over themselves trying to "prove" Barry "Goldwater" Obama shined.
And then this, at the end:

33. What exactly is the purpose of this post?
You didn't see it. How about instead of slamming Obama about something you know nothing about, you just go watch the thing, draw your own conclusions and save us the negative post? Am I asking too much here?

35. Don't be so afraid
If you don't want to talk honestly about things, consider joining the Republican Party. I for one am not afraid of the truth, and believe that if campaigns were truthful Democrats would come out on top.
I posted the question here because I didn't feel like watching McCain and read that only excerpts of Obama are available on youtube, so knowing that some people here watched the whole thing, I thought I'd ask. I also thought I had a sense on how the event was portrayed, and was curious to see if that sense, created mostly by the MSM, was accurate.

36. How "brave" you are.
Posting a hit piece about something that you preface with "I didn't watch it, but...". You posted the "question" to slam Obama. Why I don't know, but that's why you posted it. "Hey everybody, I have no facts to rely on here, but uh, Obama sucks. What do you guys think?" What the hell does that have remotely to do with "campaigns being truthful"? It's just so lame. You don't like Obama? Well guess what, he's our guy. We are well past your brave concern. Thanks anyway.

34. Didn't watch it and don't care.
I'm less concerned with the outcome of this dog & pony show and more concerned that Obama walked into it of his own free will. For a candidate who's touting his judgment I gotta ask, what the hell was he thinking? I could have told him they were setting him up, that the playing field would not be level.

It would be fair to say Obama did fairly well, but McCain did much better.

Remember when the Incompetent One (1977-1981) tried to explain the definition of "fair," concerning his ratings in the public polls?
I wish I could recall the exact quote, but he rambled on about how "fair," at least down in Georgia, meant "pretty good."

I thought Hussien looked like a lying, stuttering idiot.
Agreed. But that's turing out to be a typical mode for him when he's not reading his scripted focus group tested replies.

In the rating of used firearms for sale, it means "Probably still safe to fire, but otherwise in really nasty condition."
