Title: Coupons, special offers, etc thread
Post by: jtyangel on January 21, 2008, 01:15:51 PM
I wanted to put a thread up for anyone who wanted to post coupons or promotional items and their links. Let's try and keep it in this one thread. I can periodically go through as I have the time and delete any posts of expired offers. Just keep posting to this if you find something of interest.

Rules:

No spam, porn, etc. Also they must be legitimate offers, preferably linked to either the corporate site that is offering it or the business that is doing the promotional stuff for them.

Here is a good example of one:

http://mmm.apfco.com/w1286/index.cfm

I'm not going to sticky this topic, but will try and bump it every so often so it goes up in the que.

ENJOY!

Dixie, where do you find all this great stuff? Is there a newsletter? LOL!

In prehistoric times (before the internets) I would scan the backs of boxes, bags and packages of everything I bought for free offers.  My son had a new KoolAid T-shirt every year as a child.  I would get cookbooks, calenders, anything that would fill up the mailbox of a SAH mom.  I was always excited to have something new come in the mail.

Now, the internet makes it sooooo much easier!  Companies want you to try their samples.  They know that if you like the sample you will most likely be a regular consumer of that product. It's a win-win situation!

For samples here's a good tip that I learned early on:  Use a junk email address.  I have a Gmail account for mine.

Do you like to try new products and tell your family and friends about them?  Yeah, I'm a geek that way!  Try these two sites:

http://www.bzzagent.com/

http://houseparty.com/

At the BuzzAgent site I've recently "buzzed" about the new Sonic toothbrush (150.00 ARV that was FREE for participating!), Pledge Multi Surface wipes and I should be receiving a Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower cleaner in the mail any day now.

At the House Party site, I've had all kinds of great items to share with family and friends.  I've "partied" about Hershey's fancy new chocolates, up coming shows on TV complete with DVD's of previews, Breast Cancer Awareness (free Betty Crocker pink plaid cookbook) ... yesterday I received my package to participate in the Hillshire Farms Deli wraps party.

Both of these sites are really cool!

When Jetty created this thread, I told her that I was test marketing a GPS system for a company.  It's a TomTom Go 720.  Really cool gizmo!  There will be an incentive for my efforts (not sure what at this point) but just getting the opportunity to try it and give my feedback on it is fantastic!  The company is called Center Code and you can participate by scrolling to the green shaded area here:  http://www.centercode.com/   This is the 1st time I've qualified to beta test for them.  Seriously cool stuff!

I also do test drives on cars!  Last month I test drove a Ford Fusion w/SYNC.  For my effort I was rewarded with a $50 Best Buy gift card.  Not too shabby huh?  Really cool car w/Microsoft technology built in.  It even managed to pick up the signal on the TomTom and loaded it into the system!  Sahweeeet!

Sorry SO!  I got long winded!  There's no newsletter that I'm aware of.  I belong to several sites that offer freebies.  Trouble is that you have to wade thru them to find the good stuff.  Anything I see that I know I'll like and order, I'll post here.

Thank you for the excellent participation in the TomTom project. I have exciting news! As a reward for your hard work, you may keep the TomTom device! However, there are two tiny strings attached to this very generous offer from TomTom.

Once again, thank you for your excellent effort and enjoy the GPS!
...

The "strings" include sending them the SD card and agreeing to participate in other TomTom testing whenever it's necessary.  No problem for me on either part!

How cool is that!  :hyper:  I've really enjoyed this gizmo!

Free Earthbound Farm shopping tote

http://www.ebfarm.com/AboutUs/Environment/ConservationQuiz.aspx

Conservation Quiz

Score on the Earthbound Farm Conservation Quiz and win a free shopping tote!

Companies and individuals, too, need to conserve resources in ways that are both environmentally and economically sustainable. At Earthbound Farm, we try to reduce, reuse, and promote recycling in our products and our business practices every day. You can see some of the things we're doing throughout our website, and especially in our Caring for the Environment section.

If you're savvy about conservation, try taking this quiz — get 9 out of 10 questions right, and we'll send you a free reusable (and recyclable) Earthbound Farm shopping tote that you can use to reduce environmental waste whenever you shop. (If you get stuck, just follow the links to pages with the answers you're looking for.)

Offer good for US and Canadian residents only, while supplies last. Quiz must be completed before Midnight PDT, April 30, 2008. One bag per mailing address. Bags will be shipped to recipients in June, 2008."

1. What does sustainable mean?

A way of using a resource so it's not depleted or damaged, but preserved for future generations

2. All farmers face similar challenges. What makes organic farmers different?

Organic farmers use environmentally friendly alternatives to the synthetic fertilizers and toxic herbicides, fumigants, and insecticides used in conventional agriculture.

3. How would using your own bag at the grocery store help the environment?

If everyone used their own tote bag just once a year, we'd keep billions of plastic and paper shopping bags out of the waste stream and save about 60,000 trees.

4. Earthbound Farm has switched to cartons made from PCR corrugate, which will save more than 100,000 trees and more than 43 million gallons of water a year over the 50% recycled corrugate we used before. What does PCR stand for?

Post-Consumer Recycled

5. Earthbound Farm plants trees to help offset our "carbon footprint." How can you figure out your own "carbon footprint," which is the greenhouse gas emissions generated by your personal activities?

By using a tool like the Personal Climate Calculator at the American Forests website, www.americanforests.org

6. How is Earthbound Farm using a renewable energy source to help reduce our dependence on petroleum?

We've converted to biodiesel in our farm equipment and new company vehicles, and most of our partners are converting their farming equipment, too.

7. In 2005, Earthbound Farm converted to fluorescent lighting in our facilities and offices, cutting our electrical use in half and saving 350 tons of CO2 emissions each year. What would happen in one year if every household in the US switched just one incandescent to a CFC bulb?

Reduce air pollution as much as taking a million cars off the road for the year

8. How will Earthbound Farm's organic farming on 40,000 acres protect the environment in 2008?

All of the above

9. What helps make conservation initiatives viable for businesses?

Finding conservation initiatives that are sustainable both economically and environmentally.

10. The problems facing our environment are huge — but individuals really can make small choices that will add up to a big difference. What small choice could save you a lot of money and over 800 pounds of CO2 emissions in a year?

Turning down your thermostat by 1 degree

Amtrak Express Shipping (http://consumerist.com/384378/halve-your-shipping-costs-with-amtrak)

Amtrak offers this great deal called 'Station-to-Station' service. It's a way to ship packages cheaper than what other companies charge.  Let's say you're shipping a 100 pound package from Sacramento to Los Angeles. Amtrak would charge $34 and it would arrive within 24 hours.

Shipping that same box through UPS would take twice as long and cost you almost $70.  At Fed-Ex, you would pay a little less, $61.29, and arriving in two business days.  And its $52.99 if you use DHL's two day delivery service.

Small Package Shipments (http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Amtrak/am2Copy/Title_Image_Copy_Page&cid=1080080554164&c=am2Copy&ssid=482)

Weight limit for each item: 50 lbs (23 kg)
Size limit for each item: 3 ft x 3 ft x 3 ft
Weight limit for each shipment: 500 lbs (227 kg)

You know, I've always been amazed at these little-thought-of shipping services.

When I lived in Omaha and Lincoln, if I needed to ship something to the Sandhills of Nebraska, it was an easy matter of going down to a bus depot and getting it on the next bus headed that direction; usually half-a-day service (the post office and other services took overnight, at least).

Although this isn't generally advertised.  I wonder why it isn't.

Hot damn, Dixie Darling.

You're great at finding some of the best things.

While the real Dixie Darling (my beagle) is on the constant look out for varmits, this Dixie*Darling has a nose for freebies!

It may seem small and tedious to some, but I enjoy a good sample in the mailbox as opposed to the usual bills.  Besides, who couldn't use the occasional sample of deodorant in a pinch rather than running out to the store for just the one item?

Thanks Frank.  It's nice to be appreciated.   :-)

Here's where that junk email address comes in handy.  I use a free gmail account for things that I don't want cluttering up my standard addy.

For this offer you have to opt in for a newsletter (yawn) on eating better.  After entering the sign in info, you'll have to verify your email address.  But hey ... we're conservatives here!  We know that nothing is ever truly FREE, there's always some price to pay!     :-)

Free Presidential Greetings congratulations card for your new baby.

I just did this as a keepsake for my granddaughter's baby book.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/index.html#

Scroll down to " Invitations and Greetings"

Click on "Please follow these guidelines for information about greetings."

You'll get a pop-up, scroll about 1/2 way down till you come to "Please select one of the following to make a request:"

Choose:

"BABY'S BIRTH GREETING
A baby birth card will be sent within a year of the birth. Please make your request after the baby is born. More"

... fill in the information and your done.

Thanks for the info, Dixie. I just filled it in for my one and only grandchild, little Luke, born yesterday. I just hope that Bush acts on this and sends out a card. My son won't be thrilled with an Obama card.  :-)

I think all the Disney properties are offering free admission for the birthday boy/girl in the Park.  No minimum or maximum age IIRC.

I am signed up.  I tried to sign up LU, but they said there is a special line at Jurassic Park at Universal for those kinds of special people...

I should get one for my nephew... I gotta make sure my politically wishy-washy brother-in-law (voted for Obama  :thatsright: ) doesn't get to my nephew before my sister and I do. :p

My brother-in-law, a really good guy, also voted for Obama. It really bothered me, as he's a very intelligent person. I just couldn't understand it.

I'm sure you and your sis can indoctrinate your nephew. I have full confidence in your ability.  :-)

:-)  Not to mention both our mom and stepmom.  When my stepmom picked me up from the airport when I visited for Thanksgiving, the first topic of conversation on the drive home was the election.  She says she doesn't watch or listen to anything political anymore. :( However, she did say that  both of my brothers are well on their way to being hard-core conservatives.

God, that joke my dad drunkenly made the other night about Matt, the 12 year old, being "made" in Hawaii... I, being rather tipsy from 3 glasses of wine, responded that "you're just like Obama, Matt."  The look on his face was priceless... :lmao: Then I told him, "no one knows for sure if he was actually born there, so don't worry."  :p
