Ken Burch is one of the bigger socialists on the Island and a huge Bernie fan. He would love to see all industry in the country nationalized. So he tries to push that agenda in the wake of the Amtrak derailment, but he has just a few facts wrong:

The Amtrak derailment makes the case for nationalizing all U.S. rail tracks
It strongly appears that track maintenance was neglected in order to preserve short-term high rate of return on investment for the shareholders of the companies that own the track.
People died to preserve artificially high profits.
The next Democratic president will need to act aggressively to prevent a recurrence of this incident...and we can't be certain to avoid such a recurrence as long as the tracks remain in the hands of people who don't have to give a damn if they're safe or not.
Leaving this to "the magic of the market" will lead to this happening over, and over, and over again.

Amtrak has never made a profit and is state and federally subsidized to the tune of about $1.5 billion a year. So you cant chalk up Amtrak's problem to capitalism.
Track maintenance wasn't the issue as the track was brand new. Installed and owned by Washington state as part of a $800 million expansion of their commuter rail system.
So, a government subsidized train operating on government owned tracks derails. Based on DUmmie logic, I believe that means that train travel should all be privatized.

31. Donald Trump and the GOP Congress are 100% responsible for this disaster
The GOP Congress has refused to increase infrastructure spending that would have completely prevented this disaster. Now Trump has not even lifted a finger to help, so the only solution to protect people, particularly non-white male individuals, is to eliminate the Republican Party. NOW.

Trump wants to increase spending on infrastructure. This rail line was improved as part of an $800 million dollar upgrade that predates Trump. Not sure what finger Trump should lift to help the situation. And finally, Washington state hasn't had a Republican Governor in more than 30 years. So, again applying DUmmie logic, it appears that Democrats are 100% responsible for this derailment and apparently should be "eliminated".
I'm always amazed at how quickly the DUmp Monkeys try to tie every tragic incident to the Republican Party, regardless of the circumstances. And when more evidence becomes known they will just double-down on their stupidity.

On what basis can he even begin to credibly make this assertion?
Rhetorical question because he can't. The service on that line literally started that morning.
This doesn't say anything about capitalism but it speaks volumes about KB.

On the real planet Earth, it seems the stretch of track was recently rebuilt, and operator error looks like the primary cause. The long-delayed and expensive Positive Train Control system would have prevented it, it seems, and an infrastructure program that included installing it would benefit both the railroads (Not just AMTRAK) and the economy.
-
The "facts" I've seen reported:
* The tracks were recently upgraded to handle higher speed rail traffic;
* This was the inaugural run using that newly upgraded route;
* The tracks were rated for 79 mph;
* The train was going 81 mph;
* There may have been an object on the tracks.
"Facts" in early "news" reports are subject to update and change, but based on what is known, the cause was either excessive speed (I kind of doubt this, since ratings are often conservative), defective workmanship affecting the actual maximum speed, or an obstruction. There is speculation "out there" that Antifoids sabotaged the tracks with an obstruction, but much as I loath them, proof is lacking, currently.
Right now, unless DU-moron "Ken Burch" is privy to knowledge no one else knows, he's pulling factoids from his rectum, and at least some DU-folk are lapping it up.

This morning, it is being reported that the train was doing 80 mph in a 30 mph zone. :thatsright: :hammer: :fuelfire:

:o Hadn't heard that. Was that from an online source or from radio/TV? If true that would be big-time Holy CRAP!

:hi5: earned and issued!
I wish we didn't have to deal with equine anuses like DU-moron Ken Burch, but hopefully someone drops this apparent Truth Bomb into his turd-thread. Maybe with a barb about union train engineers - "Look for the Union Train Wreck!"

Emotions over reality. Stupid DUmmies as usual.

Obama wasted $1 trillion on "shovel ready" jobs. Very little of that waste went to infrastructure.

That's why the PTC would have prevented it, it's a failsafe on human lapses. Union, non-union, either way shit happens, but having PTC in at least congested rail
traffic zones or anywhere there is a large drop in rated speed limit for the track is long overdue but nationwide installation of it is beyond the means of the margins on which railroads operate, which is why the deadline to install it has been delayed several times. A prioritized installation as part of a national infrastructure plan would be quite a valuable step.

It was all set up by President Trump to take attention away from the Russian witch hunt. :thatsright:

Curiouser and curiouser: (http://abcnews.go.com/US/county-transit-employee-killed-amtrak-train-derailment-washington/story?id=51878888)
-Positive train control (PTC), which can automatically slow trains in order to avoid danger, was not in use on the tracks where the accident occurred. Though track owner Sound Transit said the feature was installed, it was apparently not activated. NTSB board member Bella Dinh-Zarr said it would investigate why beginning today.
Somebody's got a bunch of 'splainin' to do!

Well, well, well. Dummies once again do not wait for the facts to come out to advocate for more government control of some industry where the incident turns out to be a human breaking the established rules/laws. In this case the speed limit.
I just wonder if these idiots ever tire of being incorrect?

Union? Then obviously he was working too long of hours and was exhausted at the end of his shift. Oh wait, it was early morning and likely his first run of the day. Hungover?

1, Facts are Reich-Wing.
