when Swiftboater, Birthers, are behind attacks/accusations against Democrats there is good reason to question it. in the case of Al Franken it turned out to be a right wing attack . but Franken is much smarter than they are and they no longer have Karl Rove and some of the more intelligent types who knew their limits .
Franken handled it well. he did the right thing and i believe the reason he did was he was thinking of the many real victims of sexual abuse out there. he didn't want to react in a way which would make those who are and will be victims in the future from coming forward.
he called for an Enquiry on himself and Tweeden's entire attitude changed after he did that. she backtracked in how she spoke of what happened and how she did not want him to resign and said he was a good senator and forgave him.
this was an attempted swiftboating of Franken. a huge part of it has to do with his questioning for Jeff Sessions on the Russia issue. Sean Hannity was hoping it would distract from his support for scumbag roy moore and keep from losing for advertisers.

This was a set up and a dirty trick.
And everyone needs to focus on how this story does real damage to true victims.

5. The Democrats that have been so quick to throw Al under the bus need to backtrack fast
Three of the DFL candidates for governor have said he should resign and the only good thing about that is I now know that I certainly won't be supporting any of them at the caucus in February.
Prior to this I could have supported any of them but I have a hard time supporting anyone who is so quick to walk into a Republican trap and help them do their dirty work. I expect my elected officials to be a bit smarter than that.

... in the court of public opinion (even among some Dems, it seems), and given that powerful "Hollywood" (read: liberal) figures like Harvey Weinstein can be so easily dispatched, it was only a matter of time before the Republicans latched onto some idea like this as a response to Moore/Trump.

That's right. Moore and Trump are guilty with out any evidence. Franken is innocent even with photographic evidence.

If this involves towing him in the wake of a swiftboat on the end of a rappelling rope tied around his ankles, through a bunch of iffy brown water, I'm all for it.

A woman says Sen. Al Franken inappropriately touched her in 2010, telling CNN that he grabbed her buttocks while taking a photo at the Minnesota State Fair.
It is the first allegation of improper touching by Franken, who is a Democrat, while he was in office. It comes just days after Leeann Tweeden, a local radio news anchor in California, said that Franken forcibly kissed and groped her in 2006, when Franken was a comedian.
Franken has since issued an apology to Tweeden and faces a potential investigation by the Senate Ethics Committee.

Lindsay Menz, a 33-year-old woman who now lives in Frisco, Texas, reached out to CNN on Thursday hours after Tweeden made her story public. Menz said she wanted to share an "uncomfortable" interaction that left her feeling "gross."
According to Menz, she attended the Minnesota State Fair with her husband and father in the summer of 2010, almost two years after Franken was elected to the Senate. Her father's small business was sponsoring a local radio booth, and she spent the day meeting various elected officials, political candidates and celebrities and taking photos with them as they stopped by the booth.
When Franken walked in, Menz and her husband, who also spoke with CNN, said they recognized him right away. Menz said she had a brief and cordial exchange with the senator.
Then, as her husband held up her phone and got ready to snap a photo of the two of them, Franken "pulled me in really close, like awkward close, and as my husband took the picture, he put his hand full-fledged on my rear," Menz said. "It was wrapped tightly around my butt cheek."
"It wasn't around my waist. It wasn't around my hip or side. It was definitely on my butt," she said, recalling that the brazen act lasted three or four seconds. "I was like, oh my God, what's happening."
"He reached around her and kind of pulled her into him," said her husband Jeremy Menz, who didn't see what happened behind his wife. "He pulled her in and pushed his head against her head. It was over pretty quick."
Lindsay Menz told CNN that she walked away as soon as the photo was taken, without saying anything to the then-first term senator. When she reconnected with her husband moments later, she told him: "He totally grabbed my butt." Jeremy Menz described that conversation the same way to CNN.

DU-morons', "Well, it was just one grope," excuse may get washed away by a flood. That CNN took several days to publish this suggests they did at least some fact-checking and believe the accusation credible (at the least, since Franken is a D).

Swiftboating is the term for when the truth can`t be disputed so it pisses off the left to have it exposed.

Ironically, this will probably HELP them. It will allow them to appoint Ellison, the wacky progressive Muslim, to the senate where he won't have to stand up for reelection until 2020. If he went head to head with a GOP opponent in an open election, he would most probably lose, but with incumbency of a few years, he will have amassed a significant war chest and voting block.
Also, this allows the Dems to now go full throttle on getting Dough Jones elected in Alabama, which is frankly their main objective to throw a bunch of dems and Hollywood celebs under the bus, all for a shot of 2018.
