Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is recovering after being assaulted at his Kentucky home on Friday, joining a growing list of lawmakers who have been injured or threatened with violence this year.
Paul, a second-term senator, suffered a minor injury when he was assaulted at his Warren County, Ky., home Friday afternoon. Kelsey Cooper, Paul’s Kentucky-based communications director, said in a statement Saturday that the senator “was blindsided and the victim of an assault. The assailant was arrested, and it is now a matter for the police.”
Kentucky State Police charged 59-year-old Rene Boucher with fourth-degree assault with a minor injury. He is being held at Warren County jail on $5,000 bond, state police said.

It would be interesting to know whether the "feud" was over politics or Rand Paul's taste in music. If the guy was like TheMasterNematode the assault could have been politically motivated. If something like the latter then it was an idiot being an idiot.

A senior adviser for Rand Paul says the U.S. senator is recovering from five broken ribs following an assault at his home.
Doug Stafford said it is unclear when Paul will return to work since he is in considerable pain and has difficulty getting around, including flying. Stafford said Sunday that the broken ribs include three displaced fractures, which can lead to life-threatening injuries. The severe pain can last for weeks or months.

From what I've read, the assailant basically tackled Rand Paul without Paul being aware of his presence. Under that kind of circumstance, broken ribs would not be unusual. Football players don't wear pads to look more intimidating.

Ribs are somewhat fragile.
I cracked 2 of mine in a motorcycle race when I landed hard from a jump and caught the handlebars across the chest. Didn't hurt that bad, just sore and I had trouble breathing when I laid down.
Now, getting punched in the ribs in a fight resulted in 3 bruised ribs that hurt like a sonofabitch...

Next April 23rd, it'll be 30 years since my car crash in West Germany that very nearly killed me. In addition to the concussion I sustained (and had me in a coma for 6 days), I broke a rib and cracked another rib on the right side of my chest. When the broken rib broke, it broke into my right lung, which collapsed. Damn ribs . . . :tongue: :whistling:
FB, when that happens, the cacophony for 'more gun control' will be deafening.
