This was on TV here a couple of weeks ago. One of the women takes it a bit too seriously when it comes to the question of whether to have children or not, but otherwise it is quite interesting.

Ooooh! I love stuff like this. There's a show here in the U.S. called "The Secret Lives of Women" that profiles all kinds of stuff. I haven't seen any retro fetishes though. I love some of the looks and designs from the 40's and 50's but I don't know if I could get into it like this and swear off modern ways altogether.
I am currently addicted to a U.S. show called Mad Men that takes place in the early 60's. I would kill for some of the clothing and home decor they use.

I love the nostalgia of the 1950s but could never go as far as these women have. But then again, they all have computers and internet, and the one lady has a hidden microwave and electric kettle. LOL

Sundays at 10pm eastern on AMC (Amercican Movie Classics) they show an encore presentation immediately after at 11pm.
They also do limited commericals which I love.
I think you can view a lot online too. Well worth it! It got nominated for 16 Emmys.

I find this all fascinating as well. Seems what is more proper to appreciate what each era brought and incorporate it ie a woman can maintain femininity without having to dress as if she's from the 1940's. I think it's a statement for some women on feeling as if they are losing their femininity in a world of 'NOW' and having demands that men only had at one time.

I love this. I look back old photos of my grandparents or my husband's and they just looked so much more glamorous. I always thought I would look hot in the 40's. :p
Editing to add: After hearing the woman saying she would have to "get rid" of the child if she happened to get pregnant just ruined the whole thing for me. These people are selfish.

My mother died the end of '65( she was 45).....I don't ever remember her even going to the grocery store in anything but a skirt. Going "downtown" to shop meant dressing up and wearing nylons and high heels. The only time she wore shorts was in the backyard or to the community pool.

I kind of miss my childhood for that reason debk. Yes, I grew up in the 70's, but at least people still made an effort to dress up. Now, you never know what people will wear! (My poor eyes!!!) I nearly fell over when I saw grown women wearing what amounted to walking shorts in church. I still wear a dress and pantyhose to church. I don't have to, but I was raised that way. I certainly wouldn't wear anything sleeveless or as causal as I've seen!

I love "The Secret Lives of Women". I have the series set to record on my DVR.

My mom use to get her hair fixed once a week, I wish I had a picture of her online to show you. It was kind of like a beehive and she would sleep on a satin pillow as to not screw it up. She also use to make my cousin and me matching outfits (only different colors). My cousin always got the better color. When she would get light purple I would get yellow or green. I think my Mom liked her best.

LOL BEG! My grandmother went to the beauty parlor once a week. And she rolled her hair in toilet paper before bed. My brother called her bride of frankenstein.
Her bathroom looked like a science lab. I LOVED playing in there. I think I broke off every lipstick she had though.

My mother taught us to dress up for such things too and she still talks of it. She grew up in England though and said that's just how it was when she was growing up. I too go to church in either dressy slacks and a nice shirt and dressy shoe or a dress/skirt and heels. I know in the scheme of things it isn't important, but it just seemed to show a certain amount of respect I suppose.

My stepmother had one of those satin pillows and did the once a week hair thing too! I can't imagine only washing my hair once a week....ewwwwww! Too many years of doing it everyday.
Dixie...I have to admit to wearing slacks to Mass.....and I've even had jeans on a few times when I've gone other than Sunday(though when I was in college in the early 70's we all wore jeans to the Newman Center on campus...the priests just cared that we showed up). I can remember growing up ...we had to make sure we had something on our heads. Either a hat, chapel veil, or what I called a doily (little round lace thing that pinned to the top of my head)....and I can remember forgetting it a couple of times and having to pin a kleenex on my head.....and how mad my mother was because I forgot my doily! :bolt:

You should see what ihave when it comes to weddings and funerals. If I was dead and someone showed up like those morons did I'd make every effort to return from the dead just to kick their asses. I mean really who shows up for a funeral in T-shits and jeans? Especially shirts with something printed on them.

I was at a formal wedding, 2 years ago.....where members of the groom's family....came in jeans or khakis and plaid shirts!!! It had a cash bar after the first keg and a case of wine was gone. A little while later, I saw these same guys come in carrying a cooler filled with beer!!!!! ::)

I dunno. I think the kids on either end would be quite welcome at any number of funerals - say, those military type funerals, for example - in the tee shirts and jeans they're wearing here.

When my brother got married many years ago, they had a beautiful wedding and reception. My uncle, Raymond, is quite the character. He wore a very nice suit during the wedding. For the reception he changed into jeans and a Harley t-shirt. But that was very "Uncle Raymond" and just wouldn't have been the same guy if he was wearing a suit all night. LOL!
