What's for Dinner, Fri., Sept. 29, 2017
Crudite. Lightly steamed broccoli and cauliflower, red pepper slices, and some carrots. The dip has garlic chives in it, and is a mixture of sheep's milk yogurt and olive oil mayonnaise.
Now, if I have my way, we will have shrimp/gemelli pasta, left over from the other night. However, the RG is hostile to leftovers, so I may get the latest product of his imagination. He's been driving, so I am thinking there will be quite a few ideas ready to spring to fruition.
Oh and speaking of fruit, sliced apples for dessert. I picked up quite a variety at the farmer's market yesterday: empire, honeycrisp, gala, and green apples. Maybe a baguette and melted chocolate to go with.
In case one's not aware, Ms. Vanderbilt-Astor is originally from near where franksolich lives, on the edge of the Sandhills of Nebraska. She and our esteemed colleague Skul were playmates when they were little kids.

And I'm making it up, as I go!

2. Last of the chicken noodle soup
Home made chicken noodle soup with some saltines and sharp cheddar cheese.
Maybe some butter pecan ice cream after.
Tea and cookies later. There are some thin lemon Oreo cookies I want to try.

4. Grilled chicken
with BBQ sauce. Three-bean salad, and (leftover) garlic mashed potatoes.
ps: Was hankering for a snack last night, and was craving pizza. But, I had no mozzarella and didn't want to make a pizza sauce. So, I made the dough and made a pissaladiere-style flat bread. I had no anchovies on hand, so I used sardines. OMG, it came out awesome. I'll definitely make it again. Other items were caramelized onion, kalamata olives, fresh garlic, chili flakes, and a light dusting of parmigiano reggiano. Then drizzled olive oil about. The sardine crumbles after baking worked out surprisingly well.

5. Fresh blackeyed peas
Slow cooked with tomatoes, both from our garden, and ham, onions. Along with a releno chile casserole, made with banana peppers from the garden, stuffed with Monterrey Jack cheese.

6. Smitten's Sticky Sesame Wings
...except that I used chunks of chicken breast. Still yummy.
Haven't been posting due to some health issues...I think I'm getting thing under control, though. The chemo is taking its sweet time to go away -- but I had a bit of chocolate last night, and then had some more! Not enjoying chocolate is one serious side effect!
Well, it looks as if the primitives ate rather well.
I went to the bar in town with, believe it or not, seven chicks who wanted to check it out, as the bar is trying out a new chef, and since he wants the job, he was giving his best.
However, myself being ill--I suspect I was taken along because they felt sorry for this poor sick guy--all I wanted was vanilla ice cream with skim milk poured over it.
I kept the receipts; they had --although some things went home in "doggie bags"--le lapin a la biere, les fricadelles sauce piquante, les choesels a la madere, la poularde rotie, les carbonnades au lambic, les ecrevisses, le rognon de veau, le tete de veau en tortue, le poulet saute Sambret-Meuse, les tripes al djote, le cabillaud a la flamande, le maquereau aux groseilles, le pigeon a l'ardennaise, l'oie a I'instar de Vise, doreye de Verviers, les fromags de Huy, de Harzee, et de Herves.
Eat your heart out, cooking and baking primitives.

Sounds like vegetable abuse to me.

It's "homemade", you putz. Compound words always trip up DUmmies.
And by "homemade" they mean that they opened a can of chicken noodle soup, and slopped it into a bowl. Read the DUmmie's post carefully, and you'll see that everything is store-bought.

As appealing as a plate of calf scours.

Same here Frank...
We did the Friday night family thing and paid someone else to cook.
I'm not always the biggest fan, as was last night. 190 bucks for 4 people to eat a meal...
I, being the male bread winner, usually revolt at the idea of paying that much for food, but the CEO tricked me and I didn't know the rates before I was lured inside. A running gag that my wife has to try and trick me into paying too much for a meal... and last night she won handily.
And none of it included inventive ways to pretend we love kale and broccoli. I'm guessing most of those primitives weighing in actually had frozen chicken nuggets fresh from the microwave.

Uh huh.
That's why this mockery of their pretensions.
The biggest giveaway is Ms. Vanderbilt-Astor herself; if one's to believe her, one's to believe she spends every day, seven days a week, in her kitchen from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. fixing the meals she describes.
That's possible, I suppose--it's only 8 hours in a 24-hour day--but remember she teaches too, and allegedly does a few other things, including hanging around the primitives.....roaming the aisles of the grocery store. So while it's possible, it's just not likely.
And this is mockery of their pretentions in another sense; primitives who live in blue places suppose there's nothing, nothing at all, out here in what's terra incognito to them, red areas, whereas in fact we have some things that would beat to Hell similar things in blue areas.....including diverse, native-run small-town restaurants.

Neighbor, "crudite" sounds like something you'd blow up, not eat. :whistling:
