Is it okay to sleep with a ceiling fan on?
We have a ceiling fan above our bed. Right now to cold for a/c but last night I got hot. I figure have the fan on low tonight and I won't get hot. But of course my mother has always taught me. Don't sleep with a fan breeze directly on you. You'll get sick. So is the old Wife's tale correct or does it need to be put to bed?

8. Make sure that you keep the fan blades and
Housing clean or they can circulate allergens.
Also...it can disturb your chi...if you are sensitive to that sort of thing.

12. I couldn't sleep at my folks' place in Florida without one
and I didn't keep it on "low," either.
Your mother might have been a wonderful woman, but she was wrong. It's an old wives' tale.
Warpy not content to sleep without blowing her stank all around the room

17. I've used one for decades; still alive and kicking.
Surely you can visit your local potion shop and get a charm to hang over your bed to keep the evils of the night airs at bay?
Yes, but what about my chi?

22. I prefer ceiling fans to a/c, my fans are always on
This time of year, 24/7.
Also another DUmmie not content to live without blowing her stank all over the place. And from the looks of it, there is some stank there.

24. it's fine
don't put it at top speed as it can irritate your eyes / mouth
make sure you have the direction correct
(I googled)
In the summer, ceiling fan blades should rotate in a counterclockwise or "forward" direction to create cool downward airflow. In the winter, fan blades should rotate in a clockwise or "reverse" direction to redistribute warm air, which naturally rises to the top of the ceiling.J
^^This Dummie had to google to figure out which way the blades should blow.

27. I need it when it's very hot, but my physicist SO disabled it.
" I dunno why it doesn't work," but I need to go work on my physics journal publication. Deadline, you know."
I think being so hot that my hair is wet is much more likely to give me a cold.
What?

I put my chi away at night so it is not a problem, and when I fart it helps blow away the fog. An interesting thing I discovered is that they are extremely energy efficient when they are turned off. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Of course what google left out is that you need to factor in which side of the equator you are on. Right DUmmie. ::)

And correct for China being just one time zone ... as well as for India's half-hour time zones. It's really complicated if you :stoner: on it. :-)

What a coincidence. We're in the process of replacing all of our ceiling fans (we have 13 of them) with stronger models with 14 degree blade pitch.
The 14 degree pitch requires a bigger, more powerful motor and really moves a lot of air, with the added bonus of using more energy. Suck on that greenies.
