More Than 50 House Dems Urge Mattis to Reject Transgender Military Ban
More than 50 House Democrats sent a letter on Friday to Defense Secretary James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford urging the military not to comply with President Donald Trump's proposed ban on transgender people in the armed forces.
"As members of Congress with an abiding interest in our nation's military and its policies towards the LGBTQ community, we write to not only express our strong opposition to President Trump's recent tweets seeking to ban transgender individuals from the military, but to remind you not to comply with any unconstitutional directive which may ultimately be issued," the letter reads.
The letter was responding to a Trump tweet that transgender individuals will not be allowed to serve in "any capacity in the U.S. military."

Au contraire, commandant! Ye be threatening mutiny
Military.com reports that during a speech earlier this week at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Admiral Paul Zukunft stated he has no intention of leaving the 13 members of the Coast Guard who identify themselves as transgender out in the cold.
"I told [an officer who is transgender] 'I will not turn my back. We have made an investment in you, and you have made an investment in the Coast Guard, and I will not break faith,'" Zukunft stated.
The commandant also pointed out that the Coast Guard is the only military service to fall under the Department of Homeland Security, rather than the Department of Defense – so he contends the president's tweet calling for a ban on transgenders in the military shouldn't apply to his branch.

Coast Guard Commandant Openly Subordinate To POTUS - Refuses To Denounce Transgenderism
Presidents and other politicians may pursue policies that may not work out the best for our armed forces. But they are held accountable by the American people for these decisions and they have to answer at the polls for their record.
The military, on the other hand, is supposed to be held accountable to the president. But if that relationship is weakened and the Pentagon only listens to its own voice, then our democratic experiment faces the greatest threat one could ever imagine.

Coast Guard Commandant Assures All 13 Transgender Members: ‘I Will Not Break Faith’ With You
Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Paul Zukunft pledged not to “break faith” with all 13 transgender members of Coast Guard at a Tuesday event hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Zukunft said he will not turn his back on transgender Coast Guardsmen in response to a question about the Coast Guard’s first response to President Donald Trump’s announcement last week that the U.S. government will not allow transgenders to serve in the military.

This is OPEN MUTINY.

The Coast Guard Commandant seems to forget that he serves at the pleasure of the President. Trump can simply replace him with someone who knows how to follow orders.

Mr President needs to give the Coast Guard Commandant a new posting as a mess cook on an ice breaker for a while to remind him about taking orders.

Exactly. That is why the President is called the Commander In Chief.
Article II Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, the Commander in Chief clause, states that "[t]he President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States."
