Just found out a colleague had his sabbatical canceled due to Dump.
He was supposed to go to Cuba to work with other Cuban artists this fall.
Now he can't, due to the travel ban being reinstated.
There is no end of the reasons why I hate that Putin pretender.

1. kicking, cuz I'm still furious.
Also, wanted to add: He'd been studying Cuban Spanish for months in preparationCan you say "viva la revoloution" or " ola comrad" (paying out of his own pocket)Wow, he is a real sport for paying his way., and doing extensive reading on Cuban history and arts.
Hundreds of hours of preparation, down the tubes.
He should just go to Miami, there are more Cubans there than in Havana and they have plenty of toilet paper. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Isn't the ban just for 6 Muslim countries ?
I do not recall Cuba being in the Middle East :o

I do believe that I heard that Cuba was going back on the 'naughty' list.

Great socialist art.

At this point, individual self-planned travel to Cuba is not permitted. Guided group tours are permitted.
I think this :bouncy: is dubious. Why would a university give a @#$% what route a prof took, provided the prof went where the prof said and did what the prof said would be done? I don't live in academia - thankfully! - so I may be wrong. It's just that caring about the specific route seems pointless to me.

If he's a ****in' Cuban artist, he should just go home.

Is Cuba known for their art?
About 2 years ago I heard or read the most interesting thing about Cuban art -- specifically music.
It seems in all the years since 1959, Island Cubano music has taken one path and Americano (Miami) Cubano has taken another. And Anericans cannot STAND the native Island music.
For more than a few years starting in the 1990s, the biggest Cuban stars (their version of say, Elvis in his hayday or the Beatles in theirs) defected while on cultural exchange tours and ended up being busboys, waiters and car wash window guys.
I do like Gloria Estefan a lot but I have been curious about what Cuban music sounds like now.
It is an interesting cultural Darwinism laboratory.
