Why is #CNNBlackmail
The top trend of twitter???
Surly not just because they called out the racist reddit user of the trump wrestling tweet?
CNN found the reddit user who did the Trump body slamming CNN meme and threatened to out him unless he apologized and took down all 'offensive' material. A company THREATENED TO EXPOSE a private citizen because he made them look silly.
The reddit user posted a full apology and pulled down all his posts.
So much for freedom of speech in the US of A.

1. That's it
They are saying they threatened him and forced the apology.
Star Member nolabear (25,352 posts)
2. He's not so tough then, is he?
I don't believe it for a minute but if it was true he caved pretty darn fast.
A major news corporation threatened to destroy a private citizen's life unless he did exactly what they told him to do. If you don't think they couldn't ruin anyone's life, then you are a stupid DUmpmonkie.

4. CNN's Andrew Kaczynski is tweeting about this attack on CNN:
https://twitter.com/KFILE
Basically, Breitbart and other RW media trolls were unhappy about the source of Trump's meme being discovered, unhappier still when the Reddit user apologized for his behavior (thus making Trump look even worse), and are now trying to make CNN the villain.
Basically, a Major News Organization threatened to destroy a private citizen because he made them look stupid.
CNN is the villain.

8. Wouldn't that also be relevant to Trump blackmailing Joe and Mika.
What is the timeline of it trending? It's pretty recent.

12. They Assume Blackmail Cause CNN "Seeked" Out The Guy Who Made The .Gif....
... A Private Citizen. And Apologized For It.
Thy Are Claiming CNN Forced The Apology And Threatened
To Reveal His True Identity.
Complete FAKE NEWS.
CNN threatened to out a private citizen and destroy his life unless he bowed to their demands.

13. CNN said this
"CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same."

It's worrisome to see a professional news outfit behaving like this. I'm not going to ignore it just because I disagree with that redditor's satire/speech. It honestly sounds like something a third world despot would say after their political prisoner apologized.
Vermijelli (39 posts)
17. If it was Fauxnoise doing it to an anti-Trump redditor, the comments here would slightly different
We can't take a side with this shit.
Vermijelli (39 posts)
21. Yeah after hunting someone down who made satire at their expense
How nice of them! Like a despot releasing a political prisoner after a forced, groveling apology.
Star Member octoberlib (7,202 posts)
24. Actually CNN should just go ahead and print the guys name. It's not doxxing.
It's called investigative journalism.
It would be setting the violent left after this guy... We've already seen the left is willing to murder it's enemies. Putting his name out there is asking for some one to kill him.
Star Member musicblind (3,699 posts)
32. The world would be a better place if sadistic trolls were doxed and had to actually own up to all of the bullcrap they spew.
Doxing is NOT illegal except in very specific situations. The moral of this story: Don't write checks your butt can't cash.
DU and the leftists are perfectly happy to destroy someone's life or have them killed simply because they are 'the other side'.
Assange tweets CNN violated New York and US federal law in threatening the reddit user. DU doesn't care.
Star Member writes3000 (4,202 posts)
20. Assange is lying again.
CNN simply stated they reserve the right to publish the name if the person does something newsworthy like continuing to post racist shit. If the poster wants notoriety then no harm!
Star Member writes3000 (4,202 posts)
28. This asshole was telling people they didn't have a right to live.
I'll stay in the "bubble" that believes that behavior deserves the notoriety it's received.
Shandris (3,397 posts)
29. Our people say the same to the Nazi's.
You want CNN doxxing them too? Or are we just going to openly demand special pleading?
Meh, I don't care enough to continue this idiocy. The question was asked, I provided the answer. Fin.
EDIT: Good Christ I just saw what he actually typed. Okay, our people don't say that stuff to the Nazi's, that's for sure. Detestable individual, this one. But we -still- don't want a precedent set where we have news organizations doxxing people for what they say, as you never know when what you say will no longer be 'allowed'.
Star Member musicblind (3,699 posts)
34. Anonymity has been a scourge on the internet.
I've never tried to hide my identity. I also try and be nice to people and even when I word things in a very, very strong way, I am willing to stand by those things. That's because I'm not a troll.
Doxing is not illegal. It may be a lot of things, but it isn't illegal.
[link:http://campbelllawobserver.com/doxing-a-legal-violation-of-privacy/|
Do you think people, on either side of the aisle, should be allowed to spew anonymous hate and try to cause mental anguish for other human beings as a source of personal pleasure?
It's like all the ANTIFA ****s... I'm sure they don't care about being exposed...
oh, wait... yeah they do- they wear masks.
::)
Shandris (3,397 posts)
36. No one is claiming it is illegal.
Nor is anyone defending this guy. I'm pointing out that such a precedent can and will be deployed against us at some point, so getting behind it now is not a smart move. You don't expose a future, unending, critical weakness for the joy of smiting a ******* 15 year old kid.
"Do you think people..." Do you think any 'authority' (lol) will be able to guarantee it can never be subverted to perpetuate it from an institutional level? If you can't answer 'yes', then I can't answer 'no', because no matter how lurid the words, the words of individual powerless people are nothing compared to institutional power with a standing army and a literal shadow army of intelligence agents.
Star Member octoberlib (7,202 posts)
23. omg, the trolls just posted the home addresses and phone numbers
of Wolf Blitzer, Don Lemon, Brian Stetler and others.
sucks, don't it, DUmpmonkiez?

37. This Is Going To Get Ugly, Real Ugly....
Did anyone see the bait and switch here? Tomorrow's story was going to be about how the CNN Video Maker Apologized RIGHTFULLY (who cares how it was made to be done --- because personally, we don't) and Trump COMPLETELY walking pass a waiting Motorcade at the tarmac right by the plane and having to be redirected back to the motorcade. Full Dementia Moment in FULL DISPLAY.
GET IT NOW....
Thus, this non-story, non-story had to be the new "trend" on Twitter. The timing - less than three hours after the video of Trump's newest Dementia moment was going viral.
Look, anyone threatening or making a video used to threaten a NEWS ORGANIZATION should expect to be found out. Point, Blank, Period. News + Investigative Journalism. They go hand and hand.
However, this BS CRAPOLA about CNN finding the Reddit Video Maker of the threat on their NETWORK, the person apologizing, and CNN telling the individual before doing so --- if they did it again, they would reveal the source -- is to be expected. They are a NEWS ORGANIZATION who hire INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISTS.
Now Trump's Dementia moment leading ever so closer to #25thAmendmentNow is being buried to prop up a RACIST INDIVIDUAL WHO MADE A THREATENING VIDEO TARGETING A NEWS ORGANIZATION. Seriously? Get a grip people and get focused. This is BS. Trump's Dementia moment in time, IS NOT.
You just admitted that a major corporation THREATENED TO DESTROY THE LIFE OF A PRIVATE CITIZEN... and you are perfectly ok with it because it's your side.
:thatsright:

The world thanks us for exposing you loons.

The DUmmies remind me of this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_O%27Clock_%28The_Twilight_Zone%29).
-
This makes no sense.
Let's say this is true. What's to stop the guy from laying low for a while, then signing back up on Reddit under a different name and keep doing what he was doing?
I also read the video that Trump tweeted was not the exact same as this guy made. He did the video, but someone else added the music to it and some other changes were made.
But that CNN would essentially blackmail someone for a video they didn't like is believable. They have become a thug network.

A mole doing God's work there, but he forgot the vital part at the end of that paragraph:
CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
-
The "CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change" part is bad enough, that's true.
The worst part is that someone at CNN thought it was OK to use the clues they tracked down on his Reddit account to find out who he was in real life. This is not a private citizen finding out about another private citizen, but a large news conglomerate wanting to discover who someone really was behind their user name -- someone who had committed no crime. That's messed up.
.
-
What's surprising in this? MSM folk readily dox people they hate. Remember that NY "news"paper that published the addresses of local gun owners? (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2012/12/newspaper-published-gun-owner-addresses-gets-its-staffs-info-outed/320128/) CNN employees need to receive the same treatment as did that "news"paper's employees.

My son is a reddit and 4chan member; and he's pretty a-political. He's ticked about what CNN did....as are most reddit users he interacts with. CNN might have started a war they can't finish. There are already TONS of Trump vs CNN memes popping up on Twitter.

Yeah, I think CNN opened a barrel of worms that will have nobody glad it was opened. A lot of people have an, "A pox o' both your houses!" view of the R and D Parties, and many of them will be as or more POed by this as any Trumpling. For that matter, I think a significant percentage of Ds - maybe even a majority - will see CNN as having gone too far.
"There are already TONS of Trump vs CNN memes popping up on Twitter." A Cloward-Piven-style      .

CNN, where "close enough" is good enough.

The MSM's "standards" are two-fold: Double; Partisan.
Had this blackmail been committed by Rush or Sean, it would be daily top-of-the-hour or Section A news for a week or two. In this case, unless something new happens or is revealed, it will be memory-holed by 11:59:59 PM Saturday. Be surprised if it gets 10 seconds' mention on the Sunday AM talking head shows (aside from Fox, of course), if that much.
Aside from Fox News, the MSM act as an oligopoly: they pretend to be competitors, but when one of them comes under fire for F-Ups - like the one CNN had to withdraw, or the long-debunked editorial claim for which the NYT is being sued by Sarah Palin - they circle the wagons to defend each other.

CNN really has no idea what they're buying into once they start screwing with the 4chan kids.

This type of behavior is becoming a habit with the Leftist MSM...

As has been pointed out - by Vox, IIRC - the creator of the gif is a "nobody", not some pol, member of the commentariat, or a celeb. There would be no service to the public in revealing his name. It would accomplish two things: make the guy/gal a target for Lib & Prog loonies (e.g. DU-folk); be a brief salve to FNN's wounded pride.
