I live in Chickencatcher Holler in the most red county in Georgia. The fireworks tonight
are like nothing I've ever heard before.
I've only lived here for about 15 years. Probably tRumpers getting their explosive thang going. Will have to check with my nurse friends who work at the local hospital to see how many of my neighbors get brought in courtesy of the county tonight. Seriously, it sound like a thunderstorm or a war zone.

2. Funny opposite view...

my brother lives on/near the local Muckleshoot Res, and they have a big open field where they set up fireworks booths every year and another huge adjoining area for folks to get down with their dangerous toys. Generally, it leads to hella traffic probs and hours and hours of noise.

This was the quietest year in quite some time. Driving by, there were seldom that many cars and customers all month. My bro reports that fireworks were much quieter than usual.

This blue county is apparently not celebrating this year.

3. Same here.

I'm not talking little piddly snaps and pops....these are the big booming kind.
Cue the idiot Hoyt...it started early...

4. Started reallowing fireworks sales in GA a few years ago. White wingers love their explosives, guns

and war machines. I'm hearing a lot more individual fireworks this year, and we have several big shows.

Have to admit when I was 10 or so, I liked fireworks too until I stuck a cheery bomb in a jar and didn't run fast enough. That was enough of that junk for me.

5. Sounded like a ****ing war zone driving home tonight.

It's one thing to have a bang followed by sparkles. These were just loud, window rattling bangs.

All this time I have though that Hoyt hates the gunz because he probably cannot pass an NICS check and his motto "if I can't have one you can't either". And that was about the extent of it, other wise "normal" except for an occasional envious reference to a certain male anatomy part. Size wise.

But looking at this thread somehow makes me think that the old son of a gun prefers other son's of guns.   :-)

All of these idiots have to stop driving through the 'bad parts' of their cities. :whistling:

To us and to other normal people, sure, but don't forget these are the DUmmies we're talking about.
1) EVERYTHING is about partisan politics to them.
2) They hate everything about America. They put on a patriotic front when one of their own is in office (Usually so they can then use it to openly accuse those they disagree with of treason), but it barely conceals the deep hatred they have for our country and its people.

Last night, I was able to see about three different fireworks shows from a hilltop church next to my apartment complex (A hurricane years and years ago apparently took out a bunch of trees, so there's a great view all around). There was a nice big group up there watching it too, people of all ages, races, and probably political views enjoying this key aspect of celebrating our country's founding. I found that quite inspiring to see.
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land, God bless the USA.

Celebrating our country's birthday is racist, homophobic, misogynistic, islamaphobic and nationalistic.  Anyone who celebrates this holiday is just a right wing nut job.

Keep believing that you disgusting a holes and pretty soon you and your party will be a footnote in history.

1 Yeppers, celebrating our freedom ... as a nation ... and from the past 8 years of Obama's arrogant and malicious ineptitude.

2 Please! Keep up your denigrating condescension! It'll endear you with your neighbors and the D Party with normal American people.

The implausibility of the name "Chickencatcher Holler" was my first clue, but by Googling "Chickencatcher Holler" and "Chickencatcher Hollow", I learned there is apparently no such place. IOW, it's a disparaging nickname for people who are better than him/her (I wonder if (s)he buys fresh eggs or cleaned-and-butchered chickens from those "Chickencatchers").

45 years of living in large cities hasn't lessened my respect for the rural people among whom I was raised and educated! Nor would another 45 similar years.

But if Hillary had won on November 8th and had her huge fireworks display afterwards, the DUmmies would have all been agog at their magnificence.

DU-folk should be denouncing this racism! The Chinese invented gunpowder and fireworks. Fireworks are used to this day in celebrating the New Year and other Chinese holidays!

Someone needs to make a meme like this one, except for "gun sounds":

An actual gun sound, fireworks, rubber duck squeaking, dog barking, kitten meowing, kitchen disposal gurgling... am I missing any other potentially scary sounds?

Don't forget bike horn honking, geese honking, squirrels chittering, and of course flatulence. I'm sure the DUmmies would classify all those as "Gun sounds."

That was back in the good old Rove days.  IIRC it was a special request as the trees were interfering with a Special Citizen's views.  A little tricky but no worse than most specials.

You're welcome.

I actually believe the dummie.  Round these parts there are names for roads up hollers that all the locals use to denote the place. Don't necessarily mean that is the name of the road.  If one was to use the official name of the road, nobody would know where you were talking about.

Around here, when I was growing up, this was a small town (K-12 in one school....now there are SIX schools & another one on the way!). The road I remember most was one we always called Ball Park Road. I didn't know until I was in my 20s that the actual name was Timber Trail.

FB was full of posts about 'Pwease don't scare my kitties and doggies, and what about all the PTSD vets?'  I avoided starting any fights and just blew them off, but first if my fireworks a quarter of a mile away scare them, I shudder to think what the owners' vile vegan broccoli farts do to them inside the same house.  And all the PTSD shit I saw was posted by concern trolls rather than real vets, most of whom (Including me) love to blow shit up.

My name neighbor and I set up a few targets and played with our "dangerous toys" with our female counterparts for a few hours on the 4th.

Just as a precaution to make sure no DUmmies were going to be around to crash our ritual of grilling dead animal flesh and consuming adult beverages.

Wasn't until google maps came along that I actually learned the real names of some of these places.  :rotf:

This may be more of a Tennessee thing, but such a place around here would be "Chickencatch Holler" not "Chickencatcher Holler."  Places like that are named for an action, not someone doing the action.

When I originally read the DUmmie's post, I assumed that it was just a pseudonym for some quasi-real place, but the fact that the DUmmie probably didn't even get the idea that it would be "Chickencatch" (or, probably much more likely, "Chickenscratch") leads me to think that this DUmmie is pretending to be from the South when the only "South" part of their location is that they're on the south side of Detroit.

I had forgotten the phenomenon of roads acquiring nicknames, like others have described, despite a road near where I lived being called "Race Track Road" by people of my parents' generation. It was so-called because before I was born - probably before the Great Depression, and killed by it - there was a horse-racing track outside of town on that road. While I could be wrong, and the DU-member might be using the local nickname for the area in which (s)he lives, I still think "Chickencatcher Holler" sounds more like the kind of contempt I've heard from @$$holes who utterly despise rural people. And while that kind of contempt is probably more common among city people - born there or transplants ashamed of where they were raised - I've seen it too from Libs & Progs who live in rural parts.

You have to wonder how the very same people who hate the military have any idea what it sounds like in a war zone. I don;t care what they say. Watching reruns of movies like Born On The Fourth of July or some Jane Fonda movie does not make for a good frame of reference for how real military explosions sound.

Hollyweird creates their "reality" They really think movie/TV explosions are the real sounds. They really think the military is like their favorite hate-military movie/show. Similarly, they think "Handmaid's Tale" portrays Evangelical Christians' hidden ideas.
