Sarah Palin Suing New York Times For Defamation
Sarah Palin is suing The New York Times for defamation, according to documents filed in federal court Tuesday that were obtained by The Daily Caller.
The lawsuit has to do with an editorial the NYT ran on June 14 that falsely smeared Palin as inciting the 2011 shooting of Democratic Rep. Gabby Giffords by a mentally ill man. There is no evidence to support the NYT’s implication that Palin played a role in inciting the Giffords shooting.
Palin claims the editorial “exceeded the bounds of legality, decency and civility by publishing the false and defamatory column.” She is seeking a minimum of $75,000 in damages.

Maybe, with luck, it'll be enough to force the NY Slimes into insolvency.....
Naw....OTOH, there are a lot of NY liberals who couldn't abide by that. They must have their slimy newsrag with which to wipe their collective butts.
Personally, I've put that "publication" on the bottom of cages. They (the parrots) seem to like taking a dump on it.

It's sad it's come to this, but MSM outlets don't seem to worry about repeated exposure of their "news" stories as false, so consequences beyond "professional" embarrassment and loss of readers/listeners/viewers seems necessary. Maybe the cost of lawsuits will bring about the prudence actual ethics should have engendered.
That this narrative/meme is false has been known since a few days after the Giffords shooting, making the "malice" hurdle jumpable, IMO. The NYT might be very wise to publish an, "Oh, crap, we F'ed up!" apology and pay Sarah Palin a couple million. Not that I expect such wisdom and humility from the NYT.

It would appear that the NY Slimes is "too big to fail." Uh huh. Where have we heard that before?
