A former Diablo Valley College professor who was identified by online sleuths as the “anti-fascist” protester who assaulted a Trump supporter at the so-called "Battle of Berkeley" last month has been arrested and taken into custody.

Eric Clanton, who had reportedly been under investigation for weeks, is being held on $200,000 bail after being booked into Berkeley City Jail Wednesday evening.

I was very skeptical that Alameda County authorities would pursue this, and said so in a discussion forum post or three. So I am definitely surprised. I'll hold back on rejoicing that justice was done when the guy goes to trial on charges proportionate to what he allegedly did, and the Alameda County DA's office prosecutes it vigorously. It's Alameda County and it's Berserkeley.

Looks like the initial charges against the guy are actually proportional to what he did. (http://www.eastbaytimes.com/2017/05/24/berkeley-college-professor-arrested-as-assault-suspect/) I'm pleasantly surprised, but what happens at and after the arraignment is important. He isn't being over-charged (a too common prosecutorial tactic!), so if plea-bargain happens ... . Since it's a state-level crime, he won't do Federal time; he probably wouldn't even involuntarily see the inside of San Q, Folsom, or Soledad.
