feeling crushed
I thought maybe it would be a good idea for my son and I to have a joint session with my therapist to discuss everything. A one time event that I've resisted for years. He was diagnosed bipolar and is having some struggles.
As every parent knows, none of us have done a perfect job and would do things differently (or a lot differently in some cases) if it could be done all over again. Today I heard some feedback that I knew (probably) was coming. It escalated to "Dad, sometimes you're just a dick" (wow) and then finished with "I might give up your last name for my mother's maiden name". Wow, just wow. Talk about ripping my heart out and stomping on it. The only worst thing, to me, is "I never want to see you again".
I won't bore all of you with the gory details. Ok, I confess, I'm human and I guess occasionally I can be a "dick". But giving up my last name ? Holy shit, I did not deserve that. Not at all. I can say in front of God, Buddha, Mohammed, Abraham, and the Universe, honestly, that I did not deserve that. At all.
Listen, if you just want to say something harsh to me (even if it's true), please don't do it. My heart just got ripped out by my own son, and I won't be seeing him for a while (temporary break). If you can't be tactful, please leave me alone. This time I only want some support. Trust me, from now on, I'm redoubling my efforts to be a good father, but wow....I'm bleeding.

Why does Steve harbor this patriarchal belief that xes son (how dare he impose cis-gender roles upon him?!?!) should maintain xes name instead of xes spouse, the gender-nonspecific entity who may or may not have a vagina and uterus (since that's no longer gender-specific) from which xes gender-nonspecific progeny emerged?

But since you have mental issues, steve-O, maybe it would make more sense to just say, "I like pie."

But what's been said can't be unsaid.
Rather than trying to Stalinesquely blot it out--the blot making it more obvious, more memorable, than ever--one simply leaves it alone, accepts, adapts, and moves on.

It's part of human growth and wisdom. If you don't change your opinions over time based on new experiences and information, THEN one should be frowned upon.
Poking fun at mentally unstable DUmbasses is but one of my points of hypocrisy. I wouldn't normally look down on someone with mental issues... but I make a single exception for all taunting: DUmmies. They actually deserve it in most cases.
Lefties promote and execute some of the most vile forms of hatred in American culture, and I despise them for it.

This has always been a touchy issue here, since the beginning.
Under normal circumstances decent and civilized people don't mock, ridicule, make fun of the weak, the crippled, the vulnerable, the ugly. It's not nice, and it's bad manners.
The primitives however are NOT "normal circumstances."
There's a few instances where a primitive is weak, crippled, vulnerable, ugly through no fault of the primitive's, but most are purposely and deliberately so, their flaws and grotesquities being self-created.
The subway cat the undergroundpanther primitive, the "anarcho-socialist" aspie lad the Odin2005 primitive, and the late Las Vegas Leviathan whatever his primitive name was, are three good examples of the self-created Uglies, who deserve all the shit they get.
Most decent and civilized people can differentiate between the two types, and spare the first type any criticism or condemnation, but really give it to the second, more common, type.
