Colorado’s governor issued a controversial pardon Friday to stop the deportation of a convicted armed robber to Cuba but the district attorney whose office prosecuted the man questions its validity.
Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, says that with the pardon he has done everything he can to keep Rene Lima-Marin, 38, in the U.S.
Carl Rusnok, a spokesman for ICE, indicated that Hickenlooper's pardon would not be enough to stop the deportation.
"Rene Michael Lima Marin currently has final orders of removal from a federal immigration judge," he said in a statement.
Lima-Marin and his accomplice were charged with robbing video stores in 1998. They were convicted on multiple robbery, kidnapping and burglary counts. The accomplice is still serving his 98-year sentence.

Hickenlooper is mentioned as a possible Presidential candidate in 2020. This could hobble him in Middle America.

Fun fact, being a pardoned felon does not make you the same as someone who was never convicted of a felony. While I am not familiar with its impact in immigration/deportation cases (And don't care enough to look it up), being pardoned does not restore your gun rights in the field of Federal firearms law, you still have all the disabilities of any other convicted felon who has served his or her time, outside of very particular special conditions. The only way to completely cleanse yourself is to get a retrial and win it.

The Dims no longer give a damn what the people in "fly over country" think. They figure they now have enough parasites living in the big cities that will vote for them that they can ignore everyone else.

What's the guv's rationale for getting involved with this guy?

@franksolich
The Governor doesn't want to lose a communist voter. Eventually he will be running for re-election.

How'd that work out for them last time?

Pretty well,other than the Presidential vote. Bubbette! has to be the worse and most hated candidate of all time.
They would probably still be in the WH if they had picked some candidate that could pass for being open-minded.

It doesn't surprise me he pulled a stunt like that. Hickenlooper is pretty much Obama-lite.
