This is AT LEAST the third time I have seen Bugbrain use that phrase, and I literally cringe every time I see it. The thing is, I think it's intentional. Like she's trying to coin a phrase--maybe like "oh, for f*cks face." My message to Bughead: Stop trying. You're no Nadin.

She messed up on a post and now she has to ride it out as if she meant to say "stay woke" instead of "stay awake". So, on the contrary, I get a kick out of her having to cover for her own goof up, which no doubt she would deny it's what happened, but it is what happened.

I never heard of this usage of "woke" until a few months ago when MTV put out a racist video, I think it was "What white people can do in 2017 to be less evil" or something like that and one of the racists in that video said, "Stop saying, 'woke,' white people."

And I'm like, "What?"

But after I started coming into greater contact with this new context, I have to say I agree with the MTV racists on this one thing.

Internet slang, huh? OK, glad I was wrong about it. It makes the person saying it sound stupid, and the primitives don't need anymore of that as they're already there and rolling in it. Not only does "stay woke" sound dumb, it's a sign that the speaker is dumb.

No need to feel bad. That sort of slang is, at best, a surrogate for effective communication, and more crudely, a way for some elite-wannabe group/member to mark their territory.

I ran into the phrase on the cover of some magazine at the checkout aisle.  It's extremely irritating and stupid.  It's illiterate.  Please make it go away.

It is on the latest Essence - I delivered a few copies of that magazine maybe Monday or Tuesday. It is a dumb campaign. But, I suppose since it is on the cover of Essence, I just became a racist by calling the campaign dumb.

I agree that your irritation is justified. There are several *sayings* that cause me to cringe, among them are:

"just saying" appended to a statement; "LOL" inserted randomly; "you know" inserted randomly.
