Challenge: cite an example of any post on DU that has ever DEMONSTRABLY harmed the Democratic Party

People, this is a discussion forum. We don't affect anybody but ourselves. To think otherwise is narcissistic and delusional. If all you do about neoFascism, and environmental catastrophe is post your thoughts to this board you are not an "activist", you're an opinionated couch potato.

That said, the quality and candor of our conversations here is invaluable to me, and to many us at DU. Many of us ARE activists - in the real world - and this is a unique place in which to talk about our experiences and ambitions. Free and open conversation keeps us sane, and inspires us to do more.

Those who engage in personal attacks, or who trivialize issues that fellow Democrats feel are important, or who, in any number of ways say "shut the **** up", do a dis-service to Democratic Underground, and to the progressive movement as a whole.

Skins's island of course isn't the Democrat party, but one recalls when the sourpuss Pedro Picasso started a bonfire alleging the Republicans had planned our defeats in the mid-term elections of 2006, for some greater purpose later on.

That bonfire was aired on radio; in fact, on the most popular talk-show on radio, illuminating tens of millions about the idiocy of the primitives, and doing substantial reputational harm to Skins's island.

I figure Pedro Picasso did at least a million dollars' worth of harm to the integrity of my fellow alum's property, and should try to make good somehow.  Of course, Pedro Picasso doesn't have a million dollars sitting around, but I'm sure Skins would settle for ten cents on the dollar.

2. Yes, it's conversation in a large cyber coffee house.

And in that house are many tables, called threads. You don't have to sit down and talk at any table you don't want to. When we converse with others, do we go find a table where people are talking about something that upsets us, and jump in to tell those people to stop talking about the topic that interests them?

In my view, the number one infraction at DU is the practice of many posters to go into a thread merely to trash the people who are there trying to have a conversation. Why the nags enjoying nagging so much is unknown, but I surmise it is simply the way they are. There will always be fascists among us. They're present in every political group. They want to control the speech of others, and in turn, the thoughts communicated.

3. Most of those posting on this site are not progressive. And fewer are even "Democratic" is you take as the criteria support for "traditional" Democratic values.

Like the country as a whole, even DU has gone to the right.

The burdened primitive is a short fat 55-year-old balder with bad body odor.

8. Maybe a better question might be how has the "Democratic Party" harmed us?

Basically by not holding the criminals accountable. which is the same as saying Law and Order is not our cause...

I dunno.

I warned everybody early this morning it would be a slow day on Skins's island.

I think the DUmmy claims that Karl Rove had something to do with the Asian tsunami probably damaged their standing in the Democrat party.

The grave dancing is one of the biggest turn offs about DU.  I copy the comments to show people just what the democrats have become. :-)

There have probably been some minds changed about liberals and liberalism just by the fact of online conservatives showing the childish, idiotic comments to their friends.  I think that more should be done.  The next time some big name Democrat shows up at the nutroots conventions or the Kos conventions, trying to schmooz with these people, conservatives ought to come out with billboards and TV ads to show Joe Sixpack just who the Dems are kow-towing to.

I think it's been a fun day.  Savor this comedy in regard to the Plame/Wilson lawsuit falling apart:

4. Here's a link you might want to check out:

Try Article III -- the one that indicates that Federal judges are appointed for lifetime terms.

Please tell me that you don't really think the president can "fire" federal judges.

The ONLY thing keeping you from being a full bore COMMIE is you have yet to line those you oppose up against a wall and shooting a bullet in the back of their heads.
Otherwise, you are nothing more than the average mundane know-nothing red diaper doper baby or, modern day COMMIE.

And yet they consider themselves "progressive". Can't make too much progress if you won't even leave the starting gate. DU is truly the Special Olympics of the democrat party.
