Is it just me or does it feel like we no longer have civilian control over our military anymore?
Trump didn't know they were using the biggest bomb ever to hit Afghanistan?
The generals are in control.
Trump is a puppet.

5. Maybe Trump will give them enough power for a military coup. Ha ha ha...
Uh ... maybe it's not so funny.

9. As a person from a military family, I think they will moderate
Husband, father and mother all served, all VERY liberal. While we should be keeping an eye on them, they will moderate when they realize a mad man is in the WH.
Most military types are used to presidents saying "no". If this guy never does, I honestly think cooler minds will prevail. My dad, a Col. in the airforce, would have freaked out at talk of using a nuclear weapon.
and yet- only you ****s are crying about nukes. We haven't used them. We haven't talked about using them.

10. The whole ****ing program is out of control.
Russian influenced election; right-wing ideologues in complete control of all branches of government; ignorance over knowledge and science; and a know-nothing, jerkoff cable huckster holds the highest office in the land.

13. He said he gave them permission
I think since he doesn't know anything he decided to trust them. Most presidents prefer to have the power and final say.
I heard him on the news talking about it.

One gets whiplash trying to follow their daily poutrages.
I thought they were begging for the Generals to be in control.

This article (http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/446748/trumps-moab-drop-triggered-tweet-you-need-read) may be worthy of a thread in its own right, but it certainly speak truth to this DU-member's moronicity! The last paragraph:
(Trump) doesn’t say he authorized the use of the bomb itself. He says he authorizes the military. This is a key, wise, statement — one that hopefully empowers the military to act from a proper position of legal, moral, and political strength. Obama was notorious for not only implementing strict rules of engagement but for vacuuming an enormous amount of military decision-making authority straight to the White House. It’s hard to think of a more disempowering practice. It’s hard to think of a practice better calculated to lead to timidity in the field. Trump seems to be bringing a change, and it’s a change that’s long overdue.
If you have a little time, do read the whole article. It's pretty brief.

Fun fact: the only nuclear weapons deployed in anger were by a democrat president

Obama wanted to micromanage every bomb and drone strike on every target. Those wedding party and hospital strikes are on him and him alone.
Talk about war crimes, now assholes.
