I'm still furious that our Freedom of Speech was squashed on election night.
That still doesn't sit well with me at all.
We all needed to be with kindred spirits during an ushering in of one of modern American History's darkest days and likely it's most stunningly bad lapse of judgment.
Instead, we were confined to social media outlets loaded with either the MAGA Klan Cheerleading Squad or the "very reasonable persons" telling us that "this too shall pass" and "we've weathered greater storms than this" . Or worse yet, the odd smirking asswipes verbosely blaming "TEH IDENTITY POLITIKS LEFTITS" for Trump's victory.
It just seemed so . . . . coordinated. Why US?
This has been explained over and over again to you. No one on the right took your site down, it was $kinner who did it. As for the why, he wanted to avoid numerous visits from the secret service that your members would cause because of the death threats he knew you and the other DUmmies would make as Hillary went down in flames. He probably saved some of you from jail or at least a forced psych eval.
The people negatively affected by this were us. $kinner prevented us from mocking you and the other DUmmies for a long time, almost too long. We will need to wait for election night 2020 when Trump gets reelected to confirm this. If the same thing happens in 2020 as happened in 2016 you will see that I am right.

Oh, :yawn: :yawn: :yawn: :yawn: :yawn: :yawn: ! RepublicanOperative.com was hacked two days before the election and wasn't back up till 4 months later. Whether by Skinner or by a bored 12YO hacking DU's steampunk forum software, it wasn't a conspiracy, and your "Freedom of Speech" wasn't squashed. Obama's peeps didn't shut down DU, and you could have said whatever you wanted in the comments sections and discussion forums on DK, MMfA, TP, etc., etc., etc..

Alright, lurking DUmmies, a couple points:
1. The evil Right Wing Conspiracy or whatever would have nothing to gain by shutting down DU. You really think they care about a bunch of losers on an Internet forum spouting insults and conspiracy theories about them? If that were the case, they'd have permanently shut you down back during the Bush administration.
2. As Fiddy notes, it was almost undoubtedly Skinner who shut down the site. As the night went on and it became increasingly obvious that Trump was going to win, Skinner knew that the board would be flooded with innumerable threads and posts from DUmmies flat- out demanding Trump's assassination, and didn't want to potentially get himself in trouble with the Secret Service because of that. So, he shut the site down long enough for the DUmmies to become less rabid and demented, and made up the claim that they'd been hacked.
3. Nobody "Squashed" the DUmmies' right to Freedom of Speech; They still had the right to say whatever they wanted, they just couldn't do so on that particular site for a while.
