if we are lucky, once in our lifetime someone trancends politics as usual and has integrity and a scope of the bigger picture.

Someone who truly loves America and is looking out for EVERY ONE and not just lobbyist and where the money is.

Someone who inspires hope and brings out the best in people.

Someone who looks out for the collective whole and not the individual

This someone in My lifetime I believe is Obama
~~
this is what I told a RWer today when asked why I was voting for Obama~~

arguing would not have been prudent. This seemed to strike a chord and provoke thought

1. For me, that would be Howard Dean. But I am glad that Obama makes you feel like that. I had hope with Dean, I am glad you now have hope.

4. Dean was for me too.

Let's hope that Obama can do what Dean couldn't.

5. I will never forget his California "What I want to Know Speech" and the chills it gave me. Ahhh, what could have been.

6. I know I get sad thinking about that and other things that could have been. Instead we are treated to the nation's idiot making a fool of himself at the Olympics on our tax dime.

2. That old guy in Greece with the lantern is still looking for an honest man.

I think his name was Diogenes.

Just like franksolich rows over to Skins's island every day, with a lantern in hand in search of a decent and civilized primitive.  It's sort of like looking for bananas in Iceland.

3. I agree with you totally. Mr./Senator/President Obama gives me hope, a feeling I haven't had in a long time.

Wait until the Great Discombobulation happens.

Remember, Dokug's ex-wife's stupid prank in April-May 2005 and the Bostonian Drunkard's humiliation on May 12, 2006 were big discombobulations, but they weren't a Great Discombobulation.

7. Obama gives me hope, but so did Edwards and I'm now feeling skeptical about ALL politicians these days.....a sad, small, side effect of yet another politician lying.

8. You are a true diplomat and that answer is one of the best I have heard. I have been fortunate in my lifetime to see more than one: FDR, JFK, RFK and MLK.

13. Thank you

I wish I had been old enough to realize the impact JFK had

16. I was only 5 when FDR died but I grew up with a family that would not let us forget what he had done for us all.

10. I believe Obama will be able to bring much-needed change to America

Alas, I cannot share your optimism that Barack Obama is just a guy who loves America and wants to look out for everybody. Can't do it anymore. I'm 49; I've lived through JFK, RFK, MLK, Reagan, two Bushes, a Clinton who turned out not to be so Clinton-y...as historical figures, they've all turned out to have had some serious "character flaws" which continue to bring down otherwise good candidates every election cycle.

Don't get your knickers in a twist; I'm 100% behind BO (or maybe 99%, since I'm hedging in this very post), but I'm not 100% behind the idea that he's not being guided from somewhere else. I no longer believe it is possible to be elected President of the United States unless you've been seriously vetted by the people who already run the government and will continue to do so long after each successive president leaves office.

The dark cynic in me says Obama is a good healing/leadership figure at a time when the country desperately needs one, and he will do some great things to help revive the American brand, but he's not doing it out of altruism. He might have been an altruist at one time, but he's tasted the blood. He's got it in him now. Ultimately, like all the rest, he'll answer to the old-timers and families who control everything out of shear financial might. He won't have a choice. None of them did.

What a bunch of simpletons. So he has some expertise in giving a persuasive and emotional speech and they wet themselves with delight at the 'hope' they feel. He has no real plan for change, but dag gone it, he is so passionate.

The 'rwer' she was stating this too should have turned to her and asked her if she's an adult because the drivel she delivered sounds like something you'd hear a naive and idealistic 5th grader saying when talking about the world and the presidential candidates.

But that, madam, is the intellectual and emotional level of the greedy thorn primitive.

I don't see any mention of WJC, the original Man From Hope.  Unless Atmoan was born after Januray 20, 2001, Atmoan has already had his "once in a lifetime" president.

If the Obamassiah does win, these idiots are in for a big surprise if they really believe this nut is going to unite the country and is in this for anyone other than himself.

.

I don't even know what "unity the country" means.  I'm not going to get all-stupid-like and the moonbats aren't going to get smart, so I think divided is the healthiest choice.
