Wait, the Trump people who were talking to Russian spies were masked?
That only makes it worse in my opinion.

It's illegal to disseminate the identities of US citizens incidentally obtained through surveillance of foreign nationals unless and until a search warrant has been obtained.
You know, Constitution and shit.
In order to protect US citizens from unlawful search and seizure their PII is "masked."
Deliberately revealing and disseminating the PII of a US citizen is referred to as "unmasking."

3. They shouldn't have been wearing the masks in the first place.
It shows they knew that what they were doing was wrong.
What I want to know is how anyone knew the Trump people who were talking to Russian spies were Trump people in the first place (in order to know to pick on them). The masks must not have been very good.
This is the rocket science genius we are dealing with out there.

7. The mark isn't the one masking. The intel services are required by law to mask the identities
of US citizens incidentally swept up in surveillance.
Obama asked for a FISA warrant and succeeded in being one of a few dozens rejected out of the 35,000 warrants approved of the last few decades.
Obama then circumvented the FISA court and used "incidental" collections as an excuse to spy on Trump.
Finding nothing actionable Obama and his cronies then violated the law -- again -- and revealed the identities of US citizens and disseminated the information in the hopes of ginning up false rumors, i.e. Yellow Water gate.
No one in the Trump team was hiding their identities because none of them have engaged in anything unlawful.

They actually think the term masking in this context is some cloak and dagger skullduggery instead of a protection for innocent Americans.
