A conservative military watchdog cannot understand why the Trump administration would allow an Obama holdover to name an open lesbian to be the next commandant of cadets at the United States Air Force Academy.
Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness (CMR), is surprised that Colonel Kristin Goodwin has been tapped for this position in light of the fact that Barack Obama is no longer president of the United States. But then again, it is not so surprising given the fact that an Obama holdover made the selection while the Senate continues to drag its feet on confirming Trump appointments, including a new secretary of the Air Force.
"This is a dangerous situation," she submits. "I have no idea why the secretary of defense is permitting this, but it is no surprise to me that an Obama appointee makes such an appointment."

She looks pretty qualified to me. Academy grad (class of 1993), command pilot with C-130 and B-2 ratings, bomber wing commander.
What, or who, she does in her off-duty time is immaterial.

I've come to the realization that no matter what I think about homosexuality and perverted lifestyles, there isn't much - if anything - I can do about it.
I worry about behaviors that I can control. I can control my own behavior, and that's about it.

Y'know, as long as she keeps her sex life and preferences out of her job, and it isn't just an affirmative action progression for its own sake and nothing more. It's not like heterosexual male USAF colonels and generals have a particularly sterling reputation on keeping their own pants up.

Y'know, as long as she keeps her sex life and preferences out of her job, and it isn't just an affirmative action progression for its own sake and nothing more. It's not like heterosexual male USAF colonels and generals have a particularly sterling reputation on keeping their own pants up.

It could be her twilight tour. She's O-6 at 24, could get her star and retire comfortably.

Which means millions of dollars more pouring into the DNC if Trump removes her from office regardless of what she says or does. She could burn the joint down and there would be howls of outrage if she were replaced.

Academy Commandant in modern times tends to be a sunset assignment, honored and distinguished but not a way up to higher command. I did work for a guy who had been a West Point English prof and went on from there to combat brigade command and fairly quickly on to four stars and FORSCOM commander. Academies aren't completely poison as a mid-grade assignment but as a senior assignment it's pretty hard to take a step upward in command afterward because you're competing against people who have been in the mainstream of the action while you were trying to ride herd on hormone-crazed college students and keep them from doing anything newsworthy in a bad way and still get them to count past ten without removing their shoes. A further assignment in a high level staff position, like Air Staff, isn't so unlikely, and of course there are always unique individuals who are so highly respected they carve their own path (No idea if that applies to her, of course).

That is impossible without either leading bombing runs in a major war,or Affirmative Action.
It could also indicate she is a lousy pilot and the AF wants to get her out of airplanes before she hurts anyone.

When deployed to less civilized climes while in the army,I would steal a set of AF fatigues off of a clothes line so I could eat at AF mess halls and get a good meal at least once a week. Seems like no matter where you went,within a week the USAF would have a air-conditioned mess hall set up and be pumping out 1st class cooked meals,not heated C-ration cans from a barrel. With all the flight crews coming in and out all the time as they built up the bases and flew in supplies for the army,they never knew who was who anyhow,and never asked for ID.
Just hang around and wait for a flight crew to enter,and follow along behind them,and you were good as gold.

Pretty sure he meant '24 years service.' The O6 pay tops out at 'Over 26,' at 24 years service, trading a bird for a star is still well within the realm of possibility.
