There is no point in DU anymore.
I'll just read Twitter. Every ****ing post here is just a link to someone's tweet. Why bother?
there never really was...

1. So why don't you write something worth reading?
Why don't you be the one to write something useful, inspiring, thoughtful? Stop pointing the finger of blame at others and make a meaningful contribution to the dialogue.

69. Yes, & if you don't like the tweets, don't read them.

5. I agree with vlyons above.
If you're not seeing the content you want, why not create some?
To put it another way: you can curse the darkness or light a candle.
 Don't you ****ers know who you are talking too!?!? DO YOU!!!!????

86. After nearly twenty years here, I don't have to answer to you.
I was a "front page" guy back when DU was just a fledgling site competing with AOL and Yahoo. Suck it, junior.

90. Backing slowly away....

91. I don't understand.
Why are you backing slowly away?
If you have a point to make, MAKE IT. Why do I have to go to Twitter to read you post? If there is a compelling subject, TELL US, don't make us go to Twitter. If I wanted to surf Twitter, I'd surf Twitter, not DU. I don't see how that is so difficult to understand.

94. Maybe because this has been explained again and again.
See this post of EarlG's: "You can now embed Tweets directly into DU posts" http://www.democraticunderground.com/10138150

85. For the fits of pique.
And the comaraderie, interesting info and long time associations. Oh, and the humor. And the cool admins and some smart writing. And the occasional shoulder to cry on or astute warning. And some entertaining trolls. And California Peggy.
Silly Atman.

Actually, my good friend Atman has a point, and franksolich stands with him.
Despite that one of the smartest men in the world does it, having found it an effective means of countering malicious fake news, twitter is, essentially for shallow people whose thoughts about things can't go deeper than half a sentence.
It's trite, like reading a bumper-sticker.
As for the primitives' unkind comments about my good friend Atman, Atman has in fact written reams of his own original stuff for Skins's island. His stuff, not copied-and-pasted junk, or one-sentence posts. Of course it's been utter nonsense, the stuff he's written, but he has had original ideas, written about them, and posted them.
There was a time Atman was one of the top posters on Skins's island--not lately, but there was a time--original stuff, stuff he considered substantive even though we didn't. When it comes to contributing insight to the primitives on Skins's island, Atman paid his dues a long time ago.
I suspect the primitives don't remember all Atman's written simply because the primitives are so self-absorbed, so narcissistic, that they remember only things they write themselves, not what other primitives have written.
<<<stands foursquare with Atman; if wants to read bumper-stickers, will go outside and look at cars.

If you're going to defend your silly, petulant GBCW post, get your chronology straight, or at least get your math straight. DU was started in January, 2001. IOW, if The Mad At-ter was a founding member, he's been there just over 16 years. That's not "nearly twenty years".
GBCW posts pretty much never go well, especially if the one leaving insults the site members or the site itself. I would have thought The Mad At-ter would have seen this often enough to realize the fatuousness of GBCW posts.
