Title: Hollywood - Funding Being Cut From School For Having “Too Many White Kids”

Due to a white student percentage above 30 percent, Walter Reed Middle School faces layoffs and increased class sizes.

But that’s not racist or anything…

    NORTH HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Outrage has grown at Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, as the school faces layoffs and increased class sizes due to a law limiting funds for schools with a higher white student body.

    The Los Angeles Unified School District provides more funding for schools where the white population is below 30 percent.

    In a letter to parents, the district noted the highly regarded middle school had been above the percentage for the past couple years.

    The racial formula was a condition imposed by court decisions dealing with desegregation in the 1970s.

Taking into account their budgets and their work, people choose where they live. If there aren't "enough" blacks (I'm unsure how Hispanics were counted in that court decision) in the district, that is not the school district's doing.

I don't think courts would get involved again, but were they to do so, blacks bused in would likely have 1 1/2-2 hour bus rides each way; ditto for white students bused out.

The court order forcing this is from some 40 years ago, maybe more. IOW, this court order was handed down before many/most parents of current students - and many/most of the current school administrators - were born. It should have expired a decade or two ago.
