Camera Tricks

Whenever they show crowds, such as inside and outside 45/140's Nashville do yesterday, the camera angles make all the difference. In his shout filled shitstorm of an event, the crowd behind him looked like part of a much larger throng. But if you watched it, every now and then the camera panned a little too far left or right and showed empty seats. On TV, they never showed the empty seats on the upper level or how thin the crowd really was.

At the Women's Day rally and counter demonstrations, they showed the crowds from ground level. Impossible to tell how big they were.

It would be great if people from our side could get a higher vantage point, like in a nearby building, to take pictures that show honestly the crowd size. I know it isn't always possible, but it sure would be a great goal to keep in mind.

Not to mention the pie in the sky, pixy dust, unicorn farts and white light.

They fantasize that Trump isn't popular.

STC, if the cameras had to pan a long arc for the empty seats at the edges to be visible, that means the venue was full except for the few areas with poor or no views of the stage. OTOH, how many people were standing in aisles and walkways with good viewing angles?

She created a whole new meaning for the phrase, "Paid Admissions". :rimshot:

This is ancient history; the sparkling old dude was a two-year-old in diapers when it happened, back in late October 1948.

There's a certain photograph that was famous for years, where a photographer from the Omaha World-Herald snapped a picture of presidential candidate Harry Truman making a campaign speech in Omaha.  The place was vast.....and empty.  Maybe about twelve, a dozen or so, people in seating set up for a few thousand.

That photograph was published nationally, and based upon that, many people figured Harry was done for; if those were the crowds he was getting, Thomas Dewey was going to bury him in a landslide.

Ooops.

You and I understand, sir, that not all tools by which one measures popularity (polls, crowd size, television appearances, whatnot) are accurate.  But that's a little too deep for the primitives, with their lesser intelligence, to "get."

Sorry, Mr. Internet laughing Stock, that is a fascist democrat trick. If anything the angle used by the democrats called the media do the exact opposite for Trump and conservative rallies.

the old and tired "blame others of what you are actually doing" trick.

They had several discrete threads yesterday (boring), trying to snark at the TN crowd size.  I have no idea what they're talking about.  I saw pics, the crowd was vast.  Some people had been waiting 12 hours.

He's technically right, but only about the crowd before Trump took the stage.  I wasn't there myself because I had stuff I had to get done during that time, but local radio was covering it, and they noted that the crowd was still filing in at the time that Trump was supposed to take the stage.  The reason for this was that security was slower than expected: Municipal Auditorium is an OLD venue and it's just not really built to handle moving lots of people through heavy security.  It's fine for regular events, but tight security necessarily chokes off entrances that can't be readily controlled.  They just didn't think about building things that way in the '60s.

Unfortunately, Trump couldn't use the vastly more modern and better-equipped Bridgestone Arena for this because the NCAA tournament was going on there at the time, but you can rest well-assured that the Bridgestone would have been filled to capacity had it been available.  Actually, he could have readily filled LP Field, but my guess is that the Secret Service said "no way" to a wide-open outdoor venue with countless high-perches around it that could easily house a sniper's nest with easy concealment and direct line-of-sight inside the "bowl."  And that's not even addressing the fact that Nashville weather is notoriously unpredictable in March: last week, we literally had one day with a high of 78°F and we also got two inches of snow in about an hour last Saturday morning.

If Stupid the Clown were actually honest, he would have noted that Trump delayed his time getting on stage by about half an hour in order to let more people get through security and into Municipal.  The Gatlin Brothers played music for half an hour and openly announced that they were basically biding time to let as many people get into the venue as they could.  People were still streaming in right up to the end of Trump's speech.

No camera tricks here.

They'll claim the photo is for another event. The left have used this tactic before.

Heh.  Interesting.  I hadn't really looked at this picture until just now.  More specifically, where this picture is.

A bit of perspective here:

This picture was taken at about where the red arrow is.  The building that you see in the background (green arrow) is the Avon Williams campus of Tennessee State University. Google doesn't label it as such without zooming down more, but the semi-circle street there is called James Robertson Parkway.  Those people on that sidewalk, therefore, were walking all the way around James Robertson Parkway to go south (uphill) on Fifth Avenue North to get into Municipal Auditorium.  THAT is one seriously long line of people.
