Rachel Dolezal Changes Her Name To Nkechi Amare Diallo
Source: TPM
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Former Spokane, Washington, NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal, who resigned amid criticism that she was passing herself off as black, has changed her name to Nkechi Amare Diallo.
Court documents show a judge granted her request on Oct. 7, 2016. Her new name has origins in Africa.
The former Dolezal has acknowledged that she is "Caucasian biologically" but says she identifies as black.
Her race became a national topic of conversation in 2015 after a local news reporter questioned her on camera about her background.

Hunh.
Nkechi??? Any guesses on how that is even pronounced? I think phonetically it works out to (rās′bāt′).

33. Well, if she said she was biologically male
and renamed herself Roger, would we feel she had a right?
I am not saying everyone should support this...very individualistic person's right to claim to be black just because she feels black inside, but might a knee-jerk rejection to this at least be useful in helping people empathize with the emotional reactions of hard-core conservatives to sex changes?
Frankly, I have no particular problem with this person living her life as a black person, but then I'm comfortable with letting the already embattled 13% deal with it. Surely they can handle these relatively rare events. Maybe just consider them as one more vote each? As in...whatever.
Of course. It's all completely normal.

4. Honest question
My buddies and I love nuanced discussions about ideas, so we asked ourselves: "if one can assert their real gender is not the one that matches their biological sex, can the same be said for race?"
It feels like the answer is no, it's not the same. However, we couldn't come up a compelling reason it's different. We could only conclude that we'd defer to the experts.
Can anyone here on DU provide some legitimate insight?
(note: I know Rachel's case is different because of the deception)

9. Nature vs. Nurture. n/t
Is this DUmmie claiming people aren't born gay? Or aren't born black? Or aren't born white? I'm so confused.

11. We went down that path too
Who are we to say that isn't in their nature to identify as a different race? Isn't that what a transsexual individual does?
Now if we found the biological reasons for being gay or transsexual, but found nothing relating to race, I can see where you're coming from. Right now it just seems like an assumption.
Ahh, there we go. People aren't born black or white, they only assume their preferred racial identity. I'm not confused anymore.

5. Nkechi Amare Diallo...I like it.
She needs a new start after her oppression and loss of job.
Black people oppressing a whitey? I thought that wasn't possible. I'm confused again.

about not being able to get a job except in porn or reality TV. So this shallow stunt will give her another fifteen minutes of fame on the talk show/book circuit.
Porn?? Now I'm feeling queasy (and still confused).

14. so she lied to
keep up her identification with AA. Boy white people and some black people sure are pissed off about this. I wish more white people could identify as/with AA, maybe some of this ******* sessions, bannon, duke, jones, miller slick dog whistle and overt racism would be countered and maybe disappear. But nooooo...gotta be black or white, nothing in the nuanced areas allowed. I don't give a damn that she is "biologically" deemed white by racist and ignorant classification systems and people that allow apartheid to be continued by many other names in this country and the world. I am sorry for her that people are so ignorant.
I'm totally with heaven05. Get rid of the racist and ignorant classification systems. Who knew that one of the biggest race card dealers on the island would call for an end to affirmative action and all other racial based programs. Still confused (and queasy), but glad to see the DUmmies are getting on board with the whole "will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character" thingy that some famous guy said some time ago.

Why stop at race? She could self-identify as the species of her choice, the genus, the phylum, or even the kingdom.
Rachel Mongoose, or Z'Bonga Crustacea.
How about if she self-identifies as a toaster oven? Are we expected to put slices of bread between her butt cheeks?

By similar bizarre logic, could she not also claim she's 7 feet tall and 17 years old? Science is science.

She could, and she could demand to play center for the local junior high school basketball team.

Well, let me say this about that.
As a deaf person--born that way; never heard in my life--I've always ached to identify as a hearing person, so as to blend in with the general run of humanity. Fortunately, I was not exactly ungifted in the thespian skills, and for the most part usually got away with masquerading as a hearing person, at least for a while.
Over the years, the decades, it took its toll; acting "hearing" when one isn't causes a great deal of stress, tension, and anxiety on the insides, which are ultimately eroded away by ulceration.
I've always self-identified myself as a hearing person, even though I knew it to be a lie.
Decent and civilized people would identify me as what I really am, but I wonder how the primitives would identify franksolich; as I self-delude myself to be, or as I really am. What determines what we really are? Our fantasies or the ironclad hard-and-fast laws of reality and physics and biology?

She need to think outside the box which I assume she is checking as Black or Native American.
Another job opportunity below.

The racist heaven05 did an OK job, but we really need Bravenak to settle this matter for us. I hope she chimes in soon.

The last time I saw so much incorrect scientific "information" it was listening to 5 YOs discuss where babies come from. You know, the cabbage patch, the stork, etc.:

45. One is based on biology, the other is not.
Gender identity is neurological, generally formed in utero. Trans people are objectively the gender they identify as, backed up by numerous scientific studies. In fact, "trans" is a bit of a misnomer - a trans woman/man was never a man/woman to begin with (transition is simply making the choice to conform with the social fashions of their gender, which is natural for everyone), she was just born with biological male parts. Yes, this seems like they're the same thing, but if a woman caught a disease that made her sprout a dick and balls, she would not magically cease to be a woman.
Race is 95% sociological, created for one group to extract resources and labor from another group, and is an ex post facto sorting hierarchy based on the amount of melanin in the skin.
Why does that matter? Because race only exists as an experience that other people do to people of color, while gender exists as an objective biological, neurological, scientific reality. Therefore, "Blackness" can only make sense in the context of the sociological experience of being classified into a certain spot of the hierarchy, therefore being "transracial" is incoherent, because "race" is incoherent outside of the experiences created by the artificial, socially constructed melanin hierarchy. While we celebrate "Blackness", this celebration is defensive in nature against a system that has both grouped us in a spot on a hierarchy, and made us a lower level, demeaned, dehumanized class. That's why Rachel can't be "black", because people with a lot of melanin are not born "black", they are made "black" by racism, and if you haven't experienced racism, you really can't be black.
With that said, if racism is ever defeated for good, it won't matter if someone without melanin identifies with whatever it is people with melanin do, because presumably there'd be no racist experience to form the basis for the hierarchical separation.

On the surface I would agree that a person can choose to live their life any nutty way they wanted, but in this case having herself labeled African American would entitle her to benefits that she should not be getting. Much like Elizabeth Warren possibly parlayed her fake Indian heritage in to a job at Harvard, labeling oneself as AA could bump that person to the top of the list for jobs and college acceptance among other things. Lying to take something from someone else is morally and ethically wrong.

Dolezal did her work for her MFA ( :rotf: Fine Arts :rotf: ) degree at Howard University, which is "traditionally black". She received a (full-ride?) scholarship there because the university assumed she was black, and she didn't inform them of their error. I suppose one could say that was passive rather than active deception.
Fine Arts is a major with few direct career paths. Dolezal doesn't seem to have created much of a career path, other than being a faux-blacktivist, and the exposure of her deception and "cultural appropriation" probably nuked that career path. Her years of delusion and lies have, at the least, strained her family relationships (accusing her parents of abuse might have that effect, IYKWIM). That's a long way of saying that she's created her problems and should work her way through them.

That looks to be a dubious urban legend, (http://www.snopes.com/racial/language/le-a.asp) probably a satire of some blacks' somewhat recent love of creating prolix given names for their children. IIRC, before that rape claims became public, Bill Cosby disparaged that fad.

Bullshit. Gender dysphoria is a mental illness and not getting children help or encouraging them is child abuse.

Gender Ideology Harms Children
Updated January 2017
The American College of Pediatricians urges healthcare professionals, educators and legislators to reject all policies that condition children to accept as normal a life of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex. Facts – not ideology – determine reality.
