Wendy's is replacing its lowest-paid workers with robots

Citing concerns about the rising cost of labor, Wendy's President Todd Penegor told Investor's Business Daily (IBD) about plans to automate the ordering process in company restaurants. Employees who once took orders from customers will be replaced by self-service kiosks. Mobile ordering and payment apps will also cut down on employee hours.

Yes ladies and gents this is an interesting thread.  RocHead contradicts himself in the space of a couple posts.  Much wailing and gnashing of teeth about the brave new world.  Well worth rowing over.

Nowhere in the entire thread do they manage to connect the 'fight for fifteen' with the flight from unskilled labor.  Not. Even. Once. :loser:

4. I'll have to be starving before I use a kiosk at Wendy's

I would certainly pay more for food, if they paid their workers a living wage.

Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING is stopping you or anyone else that thinks this way, from tipping the staff heavily on your way out the door with your food.

I wish a robot would get elected President. That way, when he came to town, we could all take a shot at him and not feel too bad.

53. Fools who oppose an increased minimum wage ALWAYS cite this kind of thing

"If we raised the minimum wage above starvation levels, business owners will replace us with robots!"

The foolish part of this complaint is that, in general, business owners would replace every single worker with a robot if they could manage it. The idea that minimum wage is driving this trend is an absurd attack on people of lower income, and every cheerleader who recites that doom-and-gloom propaganda is helping to fracture the working class for the benefit of the owner class.

Note how simpleminded the above statement is. Because it is suggested that "owners would replace every single worker with a robot if they could manage it" automatically means that owners would do exactly that and therefore the argument that "minimum wage is driving this trend" is not to be considered valid.

There's an enormous logical fallacy in the primitive's post. I wonder if the orrex primitive is bright enough to figure out what it is? I doubt it.

10. Automation should mean that larger corporations need to start profit-sharing with the rest of society.

Half of the shares owned by individual stock holders and half by the public.

And thus, citizens get dividends from all the larger corporations.

Only way to keep society from falling apart.

Profit-sharing.

33. Universal Income.

OK, let me get this straight. The same idiots who didn't want citizens to be able to use the money they pay into SS and Medicare to invest in the stock market, now want the gov't to purchase half the stock of large corps and "reap the benefits".

Note, these are the same dolts who complained about "too large to fail" corps. So what would that make those corps of which the gov't owned half the company?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ No other way to express it.

I see this DUmmie has seen Bill Gates idea of taxing robotic workers just like human employees are taxed.

What a liar! In real life, this twerp(ette) would walk into a Mom-and-Pop place that can't afford such machines, take a look at the prices on the menu board, and walk out without buying anything. And a few months later, twerp(ette) will walk or drive by the Mom-and-Pop place, see the "Closed" sign, and think, "Serves them right, for selling a hamburger at such an outrageous price!"

W, M, BK, TB, etc. would prefer not to replace workers with machines. Among other reasons, they know customers like a smiling real human being more than some touch screen machine. But W, et al, also know what happens to demand when prices are forced upward.

Look for more Prog hysterics and willful blindness when Big Burger starts making their sandwiches and fries entirely by machine.

I've already alluded to the fact that Mom-and-Pop places will be squeezed out of business, as they cannot afford the machines that will allow W, et al, to keep their prices low. Another group of fast-food and near-fast-food restaurants that will be hurt is places whose products are not suited to mechanization - taquerias, burrito joints, sandwich shops, ... .

This stupidity had predictable consequences, and DU-folk are like the "______-no-evil" monkeys, doubling down on their stupidity.

Yes, it makes no sense.  And he thinks he can make it a cogent argument by using "foolish," "absurd," and "propaganda."  Left-tards do this all the time.

Rockhead's got too much time on his hands.  He goes into a lengthy post exchange, essay length, about some Burger King order which contained onion rings.  Someone messed up his order, and he's still not over it.  Counseling is in order.

51. Possibly, but the order had my value menu onion rings in it.

That's not such a common item. Could be a miss-key on the order-taker's part or a miss-bag error at the bagging station. In the end, it didn't matter anyhow, since I like the fish sandwich OK.

So you told us about 10 times.

BTW, I don't like publicly used touchscreen kiosks.  Cooties.

Ever notice how life's losers want to be made winners?

This was accelerated with the whole 90s participation trophy thing that leftist's so wanted. I thought it stupid then but now see it was just a big brick in dismantling western civilization.

New topic; culling the herd of people that think this way, does it push humanity to greater good or just stop the decline? Talk among yourselves.

Some places are working on smart phone apps to replace the kiosks, the kiosks are almost dead tech before they are even deployed.

Ohioblue22  is a little behind the times. That article he posted a link to is a year old.

There are a few fast food places in my town that have been using the kiosks for awhile now.

The poor fool of an employee told us it was to help with the rushes and to get the orders out faster.

They didn't realize it was to replace them eventually.
