Title: Candidates’ Reactions to Georgia Conflict
Post by: Chris_ on August 09, 2008, 08:45:23 PM
Candidates’ Reactions to Georgia Conflict (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/10/us/politics/10react.html?ref=us)
Quote
Russia had crossed “an internationally recognized border into the sovereign territory of Georgia” and should “unconditionally cease its military operations and withdraw all forces,” Mr. McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said in a statement delivered at an airport.

Senator Barack Obama, his Democratic rival, trod more carefully, a characteristic of his approach to foreign affairs. In an initial statement released by his campaign, he did not directly blame Russia and instead offered a more measured response, which largely echoed the official comments of the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and President Bush.

Although Mr. Obama did harden his rhetoric shortly before boarding a plane for a vacation to Hawaii later on Friday — he said that “what is clear is that Russia has encroached on Georgia’s sovereignty” — he remained far less confrontational than Mr. McCain.

It's worth reading the entire article, especially the exchange at the end.

that exchange is great, especially "the best the Obama campaign can do is cast aspersions on a McCain staffer"

really puts into prespective their mindset

I loved the multiple "refinements" of Obama's statement.  I wonder how long it will take them to settle on an official position on the subject.

^exactly. I wonder if they realize how damning their assessment of Obama's style really is?

This is a VERY good indicator of how he would behave as POTUS. McCain came out with a definitive statement. His experience shines through. Ooooobama was too busy being a finger wetter and waiting for his 300 policy advisors to whisper in his ear.

There was a thread on FR about this.  This really IS a "3 AM" moment for both campaigns, and is very telling in the way each candidate has reacted thus far.

The original story was actually from Politico:
