Secretary of State Rex Tillerson landed in Germany Wednesday night in what is his first foreign trip, and he's expected to face questions from international officials about the state of President Donald Trump's administration.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Tillerson will spend Thursday and Friday in Bonn, Germany, where he'll meet with 19 foreign officials.
A highly anticipated meeting between Tillerson and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov will take place Thursday. One of the topics of discussion will likely be the resignation of Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who reportedly spoke with Russia's ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak before Trump took office.
Another potential topic are the sanctions former President Barack Obama placed on Russia after U.S. intelligence agencies concluded Russia interfered with the presidential election.
Intelligence agencies and lawmakers on Capitol Hill are investigating whether Trump and his aides have any ties with Russia, so Tillerson's trip comes at a tense time in Washington.
The Journal reports that Tillerson will also hold meetings with officials from several countries about Middle Eastern turmoil.
