Question: If Pence Is Impeached, How Is He Replaced?

I only ask this question because I read an article this morning suggesting that Pence's involvement in the Flynn communications could lead to his impeachment. The article indicated that their "sources" were suggesting that, "impeachment (of Pence) IS on the table." Now, regardless of how authoritative or believable this article is, it got me to thinking about what would happen if Pence WERE impeached.

As far as I know, a Vice President has never been impeached, so how would his replacement be selected? Would Trump get to select just anyone he wants, or does it have to follow the line of succession that's in the Constitution (which would mean Paul Ryan would be next in line)? And what if Trump is under impeachment, or the possibility thereof, at the same time? Would he still get to select his own replacement even if he were under impeachment? Because I'm 100% sure he'd select a doozy, and about 99% sure it would be Newt Gingrich.

Even if the article I read is pure fantasy (and the realist in me thinks it probably is--Pence has too much plausible deniability at this point, but who knows what the future will bring as we continue to pull at this thread), it just got me to thinking about how the moving parts in such a proceeding would work. I know Nixon replaced his VP once, but it wasn't because of impeachment.

Actually, CC27, I kind of hope they keep it up. Along with the Trump-is-nuts 25th Amendment thingy. Along with the Emoluments Clause nonsense. Along with the Barron will be a mass shooter silliness. All that Prog-Wet-Dream-Fantasy @#$% will, in a few months, make the Birthers look merely slightly eccentric.

They should be very careful what they wish. Impeach Pence and Trump might replace him with Bannon. :rotf:

They really have no knowledge of history.  When Agnew resigned tricky Dick Nixon selected Jerry Ford and Congress confirmed him.  I'm with Rover, Palin would make an excellent choice.

The backstory is that the Dems in the two houses of Congress supposedly told Nixon that the only guy that they would approve was Ford.

I'd want President Trump to pick Ted Cruz, myself. :whistling:

What kind of alternate universe do you have to live in if you believe that a strongly Republican majority Congress is going to initiate impeachment proceedings against a Republican President and Vice President.    Is it the pot or is that the Cheetos that alters their brain function so.    I hope it's not the Cheetos, because I confess I love the damn things, artificial orange dye and all.  :-)

Don't forget, McCain and Lindsey (the closeted one) Graham, wanted Hillary to win instead of Trump.

Ya know somehow raging metrosexual rhino doesn't quite describe Lindsay or Juan.   :fuelfire:  But can't ya just picture Juan in the cloak room fanning Lindsay saying 'Calm down Lindsay, your aye aye make up will run if you get the vapors'.   :-)

[response to Mr. Wiggum, above]

Yeah.  This is one of those cases where I rage against age.

There's nothing I can do about it, but I rage anyway.

Back in 2000, Richard Cheney was my favorite for the number one spot.....as he was in 2008 and 2012 and 2016; my first choice every time there wasn't an incumbent Republican running.

Of course, he having been grievously ill, along with his age, made it a pipe dream, but there's no harm in dreaming.

While of course I was very happy, eminently satisfied, with George Bush, the most principled and ethical occupant of that office in my lifetime, I still at times wonder how much better it would've been, with Richard Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld as his vice-president.

First, you get a democrat-controlled House and Senate, and then.......oh.  Never mind.  Vice President Pence will be dead from old age by then.  Carry on.
