What could the Founding Fathers have done differently to avoid a President Trump?
I'm hardly a constitutional scholar, but checks and balances in a 2-party system only function properly when each of the parties control at least one branch of the government.
Trump has been unleashed on us, and with overt partisans from his party taking the lead at the legislative and judicial levels, the opportunity for mischief is omnipresent. The Democrats would self-police in such an instance. The Republicans, obviously, will not. Party before nation, 100 times out of 100. They've made a mockery of the Constitution and our Republic is threatened as it has never been before.
they didn't care when teh [D]s had all three.

How much "self-policing" were you idiots doing when Obamacare was rammed thru?
I cannot tell a lie - when I read Mr. Ected my mind reports back "Mr. Ed". Mr. Ed would be the smarter of the two...

Well I'm not a Constitutional scholar or attorney but my Schadenboner is. J. Schadenboner Esq. just got a law degree specializing in Constitutional law from no less than Harvard. Within the last 48 hours has also passed the bar in 27 states. J. Schadenboner Esq. says that everything that DUchebag just said is bullshit.

To answer the DUmmy, the same thing that could have prevented that traitorous dictator socialist LBJ.

That time, and some other times too, in your and my lifetimes.
I especially remember 1965-1967 after the Goldwater loss of 1964; 1975-1979 after Watergate, the dawning of the Age of Aquarius during the mid-term elections of 1974 in which the hippies ousted the old white man Establishment, and Carter's narrow victory over Ford in 1976; 1993-1995 the first two years of the Clinton presidency; and 2009-2011 the first two years of the Obozo regime.
All times during which the Democrats had not only the White House, but dominated both Houses of Congress with near veto-proof (or better) majorities, and controlled the Supreme Court.
There's much to be said for "balance of power," and I'm all for it, but what can I, a Republican, do about it when members of the other party cripple their own party, making it unpalatable to the majority of voters? There's no point in "equalizing" things by sharing power with an entity deemed by most voters as being too extreme, too fringe, too kooky.

Well, they probably could have realized that things would solidify into an oligarchic two party system, and that the Legislative Branch and Presidency would both end up in the hands of ancient SOBs who would just kept aggregating power to themselves until they eventually die of natural causes, and put in lifetime term limits for the House, Senate, and Presidency when they set the whole thing up, so that the only way to break the cycle would be to have a wild card like the The Mule in Isaac Asimov's 'Foundation' trilogy raised up by the people who were sick of it.

What the DUmmies don't realize is when they took the power to elect Senators away from the State legislators, our (speaking DUmmiese) "slow decent into Hell" began...
Now, the want to take the power to elect the President away from the EC. Dummies will never learn.

Here's these DUmmies' suggestions for the Founding Fathers:
