What's for Dinner, Fri., Jan 20, 2017

Turmeric chicken wings from a recipe in the NY Times. Here’s what it says about them: This chicken marinated in a deeply golden curry sauce with ginger and scallions is one of the essential components of arroz gordo, a dish from Macau.

A big, green salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, carrots, and red and green peppers.

1. I'm thinking a xanax followed with a vodka chaser.

not really, I'll stop at a store and pick up some prepped food. I am really too depressed to cook, but if you want to share your chicken, I'd not say no.

2. Lobster Thermador.

No, not because of Trump.

A birthday in the family.

And my Wife is experimenting (usually that goes well).

3. Happy Hour...

I need a drink - and then I'll decide- I will be making chicken soup and shepherds pie this weekend!

4. We are getting Mexican

Margaritas and solidarity.

^^^reminds one of that time way back in November 2008 when the now-gone hippywife primitive Mrs. Alfred Packer, wishing to establish a togetherness, solidarity, with the then-incoming president, made African goats'-head stew.

5. Faked lasagna

Noodles being off our menu, it's all the ingredients of lasagna with squash and mushrooms, stovetop until the last 5 minutes, then broil the cheese.

Plus enough gin to break a mule.

Now.....why would healthy noodles be "out," but not unhealthy gin?

It reminds one of the warped primitive, she with the face like Hindenberg's, who's "allergic" to milk, but not allergic to chocolates and sugar; it's odd, how she's "allergic" to things good for her, but not to things bad for her.

8. I've had a delicious vegetarian lasagne that a caterer provided at several events I worked.

It relied heavily on the squashes (butternut and acorn) to replace the pasta. Lots of cheeses, plus mushrooms in a tomato sauce. We (the band and I, who are with one exception carnivores) were happy to have the lasagna.

6. Carbs!! Carbs!!! Pork Roast resting now but I will only

have a little of that. I am having real mashed potatoes.

Mmmmm

Twitler is bad for the diet, but good for comfort food

7. Pot Roast again

Leftover pot roast that was cooked in the cRock pot.

I will make a salad - I know I have cucumber, tomato and lettuce, but hoping there is more in the frig.

It seems likely that TJ caught my cold. She has taken to her bed, so I will be dining alone.

I think I'll finish off my whiskey before dinner to maximize its effect. There is only an inch in the bottom of the bottle. I think I need to tune out from current events for a little while and it will help.

9. Salmon "patties" (I hate that word)

Low-carb, of course. Homemade 'slaw, and a rice-quinoa mix from Aldi.

And yes, there might be booze later...

Cher, that chicken recipe sounds great! I'd have to eliminate the cornstarch, but I'm bookmarking it to think about later.

It's good the primitives are enjoying their meals this day, because once the now-president's settled down in office, all they're going to have to eat is hot water, gruel, and dried bread.

I hear Swanson makes a dish called Bag O'Dicks. It's in the freezer section. Bon appetit, DUmbasses.

Stop thinking small.

And from someone who makes a killer lasagna, to all those "fake/vegan lasagnas" up there, shove it.

I thought it was fitting to give a business some business today.  So that's what we did with the pizza joint down the street.

Since they're primitives, they might choke on a Bag O'Dicks.  Might I suggest a cough suppressant to make things go a little easier- dextromethorphan:

I really wanted to do that today, but unfortunately things interfered, this probably being the worst inaugural day in my life since January 20, 1993, when I slipped on ice walking out of a coin-and-stamp store, and lost my right elbow.

That both were rotten days had no connection with what was going on 1500 miles east of me.

By 7:30 in the evening, I hadn't eaten anything the past twelve hours, but wasn't feeling motivated to dine.

I did however cook three farm-fresh eggs, over medium, salt and pepper, and slipped them inside three whole-wheat hamburger buns, dry, no mayonnaise or other.  It was okay though, because earlier today decent and civilized people recaptured America, after forty years of the Age of Aquarius.

A sentence worth repeating, again and again.

My normal schedule is later than what is common, and Mrs. SVPete worked late, so we went to CfA. We got there 7ish, and it was PACKED!

It might be time for NJCher to pass the cooking and baking baton to a less controversial primitive.  I'm wondering if some of the lowered traffic is due to her having a foot in both the jackass camp as well as on Skin's Island.  I noticed she's dealt with a lot of snarky comments from other primitives due to that.
