Trump to Kill Obamacare With Executive Orders on Day One
Source: The Daily Beast
President-elect Donald Trump will begin to dismantle the Affordable Care Act almost immediately when he takes office later this month through a series of executive orders, Mike Pence reportedly told House Republicans in a meeting on Captiol Hill on Wednesday morning. Rep. Chris Collins, a steadfast Trump ally in the lower chamber, reportedly said Congressional Republicans will have a replacement bill ready in six months. Meanwhile, President Obama was meeting separately with Democrats to discuss a strategy going forward for shielding the president’s signature legislative achievement. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) was tweeting from inside the meeting and said Obama criticized the GOP for its handling of the repeal process. “You don’t tear down a house before having plans and building a new one,” Obama purportedly said, adding that he could have done a better job “communicating the importance” of the Affordable Care Act.

16. Foolish on their part though as while it might save corporations and alot of the 1% money
it will hurt millions of people more that depend on Obamacare and those millions likely have friends and family who probably care about their loved ones losing their health insurance and that means millions of ****ing pissed off voters in 2 years during the midterm elections.

Trump could quickly doom ACA cost-sharing subsidies for millions of Americans

Even without Congress repealing the Affordable Care Act, the Trump administration could undermine the law by unilaterally ending billions of dollars the government pays insurers to subsidize the health coverage of nearly 6 million Americans.
....
The subsidies could be eliminated as soon as President-elect Donald Trump takes office, a consequence of an unusual lawsuit that House Republicans brought against the Obama administration two years ago.
The GOP’s case, part of its sustained attack on the 2010 law, contends that the cost-sharing reductions to insurers are illegal because Congress has not provided a specific appropriation for them — an argument the administration disputes. In May, a federal district judge ruled in favor of the House but left the subsidies in place while Obama officials appealed the decision.
Once Trump is sworn in, his administration could simply drop the appeal. At that point, the payments would stop, barring a reversal by the Republicans who sued to get rid of the subsidies. Lawmakers would then have to approve funds to keep the payments in place. A three-judge panel of the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has granted a House request to pause the case until Trump takes office.

2. and that act by Trump will kill people
Good chance that many white rural people will now find themselves w/out
health insurance and or health care.
Good Christ this was a coup and Trump and many memebers of the House
and senate got into office because of cross check, russian hacking, fake news,
gerrymandering, and electronic voting systems.

34. not only kill people because they're uninsured. thousands of jobs would be lost & emergency rooms
overwhelmed with sick people and their very ANGRY families. Not everyone who loses health care coverage will crawl off and die.

10. Unfortunately the pitchforks will be turned against Democrats.
The conservative propaganda machine will blame Dems and Dems have no effective defense against it but the truth which holds no value anymore.
Damned shame Dems being blamed for a law they wrote exclusively and passed by ram-rodding it through both houses.

5. Man, remember way back when....
All the variations on the following:
"The Republicans will HAVE to support this law. It's just like the one they designed. If they don't they look hypocritical and foolish!"
"Sure it's not perfect but once it's in place it will be easy to expand it!"
"Once these provisions are passed the people will realize how great it is and they'll never let the Republicans repeal it."
"It will be so popular that the Republicans will pay a huge price if they try to touch it!!!"
"It's the law of the land and it is here to stay. The Supreme Court confirmed this!!"
Boy, those of us that were skeptical and expressed concern sure look foolish now, don't we?

OK play their game.... Here is what you do...ANYONE who is reading this forum and is on the ACA, and if your policy gets cancelled (which I am not buying it yet), go to your local (NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT) non-profit hospital ER for your healthcare. Stomach flu...go there, cut, scraps, kid with fever, bad headache, go there.... Taxes will need to cover these..... prices will go up, the govt will be blamed... Remember something, ACA (Obamacare) is not a democratic thing, it an affordable thing. Not all ****ump supporters are flush with cash, many are on ACA, and many Republicans are on it too....

21. How can Trump pick and choose what parts to repeal?
Wouldn't he have to repeal everything, not just except for Part A, B, etc, that he may like? Does the individual mandate go away too? Pre-existing conditions? Children under 26?
Won't this also send the health insurance companies in chaos? Even putting aside the government subsidiaries, what about young, healthy people deciding they don't want to have health insurance and just dropping it entirely if there is no individual mandate?
Yes, I agree that this has far reaching economic consequences apart from the health issues.

30. He can repeal any of the parts implimented by Ezecutive Order. That is the thing about EO's
they are only as permanent as the President wants them to be.
kelly1mm (3,480 posts)
22. When you govern by Executive Order then you should be prepared for those EO's to be tossed
out by your successor, at least potentially. That is why it was, in my opinion, a mistake to try and do so much by EO. One it can easily be reversed and Two it legitimizes the use of EO's for what is traditionally/normally legislative power.

What is so hard to understand about losing 2010,2014 midterms and 2016 general largely because voters were pissed at the lies told to them about Ocare as well as the actual consequences the law delivered?

I can hear the angry mob now "give us back our $6000.00/year deductible back right now or were gonna be really pissed!"

Because, neighbor--that would require them realizing that their leaders, and themselves (by extension), were wrong about all aspects of the law. They can't admit that they were wrong. That would require them to admit that they're probably wrong on a lot of other things that Obama did, too.

Interesting. I just listened to an interview of Jonathan Gruber a couple of days ago and he admitted that since the ACA went into effect, MORE people are going to the emergency rooms and running up the cost of healthcare. Of course, he blamed it on these people never having had insurance and not knowing how it works. He then said it would take at least 5 years (I think) for those people to become educated and stop going to the emergency room.
What an ass.

Let's Make it REAL SIMPLE for the Deplorables, okay?
To them, "Repealing Obamacare" sounds GOOD! It means they won't have to pay a penalty if they keep not having insurance, they won't see more rate hikes (heck, they expect their premiums to go DOWN,) their taxes will go down because those "undeserving" people will stop getting freebies, they won't have to scratch their heads trying to figure out all the complicated implications of the "silver" versus "gold" plans and what the different kinds of deductibles are, and they won't have to worry about whether the doctor they like will stop taking their insurance, and a whole lot more delusional bullshit.
Yes, it's delusional bullshit, but they believe it.
Because, let's face it, the ACA is COMPLICATED. It does have some downsides (mostly as a result of GOP whining and compromises and court cases and so on, but they're there and they do hurt.)
So when they hear "repeal Obamacare" they jump for joy because a) That will "fix" everything that's wrong with their current health care and b) it'll stick it to that uppity Kenyan who stole the WHITE House for the last 8 years.
::sigh::
We have to stop saying that repealing the ACA is bad, repealing Obamacare is going to hurt people, they'll be sorry, blah-blah-blah, and reduce it to simple, easy-to-grasp one-liners:
Repeal is the GOP giving your insurance company permission to drop you if you get sick.
Repeal brings back the prescription drug "donut hole" for seniors on Medicare.
Repeal will allow your insurance company to stop offering any plans you might qualify for.
Repeal will remove rate hike caps and make your next rate increase BIGGER.
Repeal will let insurance companies stop covering anyone with a "pre-existing condition."
Repeal will let many health care providers "balance bill" you for whatever insurance refuses to pay.
Repeal will crowd the hospital emergency rooms with uninsured people seeking care.
Repeal will kick your children off your policy when they turn eighteen, leaving them uncovered.
Repeal restores lifetime limits on insurance benefits, when you hit them, you're uncovered.
Repeal takes away your free preventive care.
I prefer pounding ONE of these one-liners at a time, but they could also be bullet-pointed under "10 Ways the GOP Congress Wants to Screw You by Repealing ACA/Obamacare"
The main thing is to KEEP IT SIMPLE.
They don't have much cognitive capability, your average Deplorable.
wearily,
Bright

Lemme guess...
If we keep ObumbleCare
The cost curve will bend downward
If we like our doctor we can keep our doctor
No one is going to take our health plans away
The average American family will save $2,500 a year
You won't force us to buy your birth control
You won't force religious hospitals to perform abortions
Taxpayer money will not be illegally funneled to corporations
HHS will not rule by decree

The ACA will not add one dime to the deficit.

what the different kinds of deductibles are,
Isn't there only one kind of deductible?
People are paying, or trying to pay, outrageous sums of money for nothing. Now, a lot of these plans are simply not in the cards in many family's budgets. There's only so much in the take home paycheck, if you get one, and there is never an extra $1500-$2,000 per month laying around. The mandate penalty piles on top of this unrealistic expectation. It's that simple. Then, you can't use the insurance due to the deductible, so it's all out of pocket anyway.
That mandatory coverage of things like maternity care for people not having kids, etc. is ridiculous too.
DUmmies, there just has to be a better way. And VA-style government run healthcare is not it. They have demonstrated their incompetence again and again.

Unless a person gets subsidies, and sometimes even if they do get them, they can only afford the cheapest plan to avoid the tax penalty. Choosing the cheapest plan they can afford leaves them with high deductibles that they will never meet and can't afford unless they have a catastrophic illness.

Not all ****ump supporters are flush with cash, many are on ACA, and many Republicans are on it too....
No, nitwit, they aren't.
2016 enrollment in Obamafail was about 16 million total. Nowhere near the long-claimed "fifty million without health insurance" that the lying Left insisted was the case leading up to the passing of the legislation or even when Lyin' Nancy claimed that Hindenburg.gov perpetually crashing was actually a tremendous success because so many (again, claimed to be fifty million Americans) were so desperate to get onto Obamafail.
Out of those 16 million who are enrolled, at least about twelve million are known to be people who are there because they got tossed out of their existing coverage, either because their individual plans were suddenly deemed "insufficient" (which was my case, since my plan did not cover birth control for me, a 45-year-old divorced male with absolutely no intention of having children) or because they got tossed out of an employer plan because it made far more sense for the employer to unload that burden. So you have maybe four million people who "depend on" Obamafail, and that's being exceptionally generous.
62.2 million people voted for Trump. Four million maybe who "depend on Obamafail." There simply is not any sort of large number of Republicans, conservatives, or Trump supporters who "depend on Obamafail."
