Ford cancels Mexico plant. Will create 700 U.S. jobs in 'vote of confidence' in Trump
Source: CNN
Ford is canceling plans to build a new plant in Mexico. It will invest $700 million in Michigan instead, creating 700 new U.S. jobs.
Ford (F) CEO Mark Fields said the investment is a "vote of confidence" in the pro-business environment president-elect Donald Trump is creating. However, he stressed Ford did not do any sort of special deal with Trump.
"We didn't cut a deal with Trump. We did it for our business," Fields told CNN's Poppy Harlow in an exclusive interview Tuesday. He said Ford did speak with Trump and vice-president elect Mike Pence this morning.

4. So what's the real reason they've canceled this Mexican plant?
I'm sure once this headline dies down, we'll know the real reason.
We are going to Make America Great Again!

10. Eh, piss on Michigan
We already have a president in office who saved those jobs, and his reward, from the people of the not so great state of Michigan, was to elect a racist troll.
I'll get over it eventually, but right now, Michigan can take a long walk off a short pier.
This is exaactly why the democrats need, must have, Ellison at the head.

DUmmies are not big fans of Ford, it has a lot to do with the auto bailout. :whatever:

I looked at the thread. DUmmies are claiming they will only purchase Toyota and Honda.
*** way to support your union brothers. Liberals = hypocrites.
That whole thread is nothing but sour grapes.

15. Usually it is because they get enormous tax breaks
It has to be something like that to male it cost effective to build in US instead of cheaper Mexico.
That's GM you're thinking of.
You know, the GM that Obama illegally ****ed investors out of their due percentages and gave the difference to his union cronies with taxpayer purchased shares which GM then repaid pennies on the dollar.

Meanwhile Caterpillar continues to move jobs to Mexico and cut employees in the US.

17. Hate to say it
but Trump just got about 700 new votes come 2020. Those workers don't give a shit that tax incentives and other concessions are used to keep companies from going overseas, they care that they still have a job.
And with these CEOs openly giving Trump credit, Dems are going to have to start finding ways to answer uncomfortable questions like "Where was Obama when our jobs were on the chopping block?" in order to win those workers back.

36. 700? more like thousands
the narrative is being created now:
Trump is revitalizing American manufacturing
when an economic source like manufacturing strengthens, all the associated goods & services get a boost too; whether or not this happens, it will be said to be happening
in 2 years this will be common wisdom unchallenged by the media or the general public
this is looking very much like an 8-year nightmare

Only a DUmmie could think that creating jobs is a nightmare. :panic:

Nonsense! Obama wrote off those jobs, said they were never coming back!
The bottom line? The law-abiding "citizens" are showing their appreciation for the "new sheriff in town" even before he's inaugurated.
I look forward to Progs reviling Ford, Carrier, IBM, etc. as Eeeeeee-vile Corporations when thousands of jobs are linked to those companies and revilings.

Nothing will scare a DUmmie more than the threat of having to work for a living.

Only a DUmmie could think that creating jobs is a nightmare. :panic:
Worse still, some Detroit or other depressed city's depressed neighborhoods might be (Gasp! Horrors!!) be "gentrified" (have rent- and mortgage-paying people living there again)!
-
And it won't officially start for another 17 days
That's the best part!
If Trump does this right, the 46th President of the United States will be President Mike Pence. :yahoo:

This was not really that big of a surprise to those who work with / for Ford.
A few months ago, Fields announced a multi-billion dollar investment in the Dearborn HQ facility, or what we refer to as Google East.
With the autonomous and hybrid platforms being developed, it made sense to keep the manufacturing close to the technology development. (Flat Rock is about a 20 minute drive from Dearborn)
Now while the election of Trump may have had some minimal influence, anybody in the industry knows that decisions on projects like this are made months in advance and at a speed that is eclipsed by glacial recession.
Of course for DUmmies to understand this, they would actually have to read and comprehend something other than Daily Kooks and HuffandPuff Post.

I saw an interview with one of the bigshots today saying basically the same thing... including the decision to nix the meheeko plant and that it was due to shrinking small car sales (Focus platform)
