Terrorism? Nope.
Global warming? Nope.
Russians? Nope.
Maybe Trump? heh, not according to this DUmmie.
No, the worst thing to ever happen is...
is...
We're not watching enough Mythbusters!
Never mind that the Science channel runs it constantly.
Or that they showed every single episode in a marathon over the past week or so.
Or that they're about to start up new episodes (minus the original people).

The most disheartening Geographic data I've seen in a long time.
Recently the New York Times ran a piece about the cultural divides in America. (http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/12/26/upshot/duck-dynasty-vs-modern-family-television-maps.html?smid=fb-share&_r=1) It featured a lot of maps. Most of it was moderately interesting and somewhat revealing but there was one map that left me disheartened and depressed. It was this map;
(https://static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics/2016/11/21/facebook-tv-maps/assets/mythbusters_full.png]https://static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics/2016/11/21/facebook-tv-maps/assets/mythbusters_full.png)
This map shows the viewership of mythbusters. When you look at it you should notice that viewship is extremely low all across the south. Living in TX this confirms something I already know. People in Texas and across the south don't understand what science IS. I'm not talking about being able to accurately describe theory of natural selection or the big bang or debating whether or not the Food Babe is right. Those are scientific topics, not science.
Mythbusters is one of the best science shows ever because it demonstrates the scientific process over and over. Theory -> prediction -> Experiment -> Confirmation or Refutation. Set aside all the topics and knowledge that science has brought us and you are left with the process. People around me don't understand what science IS and because they don't understand what Science is, they think it's a competing religion.
Never have I wished more that the South and North were separate countries.

What's the biggest problem facing this country today?
The Left.
Next question . . . :whistling:

Oh sure, if you want the easy answer...

Lemme guess...
you believe global warming is real despite the absence of empirical evidence or ability to predict.
-
I like the way Myth Busters does experiments. However, as a very experienced mechanical engineer many of their experiments are faulty. Thus many of the conclusions are wrong. Both of the head guys are not practiced in engineering or physics. Their analytical method is good though. But if you stat out with the premise 1+1=3 everything after that is wrong.

Beat me to it. :cheersmate: Gawd................... :thatsright:

Assuming you mean the North being communist, and the South being capitalist, then I agree 100%, as long as I'm currently in the South, and have nothing to do with the communists in the North.
By the way, Kurt Slichter has just such a book that also meets this DUmmie's wishes:
People's Republic (https://www.amazon.com/Peoples-Republic-Kurt-Schlichter-ebook/dp/B01M0H7WQZ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474160182&sr=8-1&keywords=kurt%20schlichter%20people%27s%20republic&tag=viglink20251-20#nav-subnav)

Mythbusters? Not exactly what I'd call a "science" show. Maybe for the first couple seasons, but then they got too engrossed in making explosions and it got ridiculous. Should have been cancelled years ago.

I watched it until it ended, just because they were blowing things up. Plus, some of their gun centered shows really showed the effectiveness of different calibers.
-
Them libs love them some stereotyping.
-
If DU-member TXC is such a Mythbusters fan, why is (s)he speaking of the show in the present tense?
:-) As for Southereners, they're out doing the guns and explosions "experiments" themselves, using live game, and evaluating the results at dinner. :-)

I'm with you on that. They're generally entertaining, but some of the myths are just stupid and sometimes there are obvious faults in what they are trying to do. OK but not riveting, the obvious level of hoop-jumping they have to go through to blow up or burn anything in Kalifornistan is also rather depressing.

Not always without reason. (https://www.wired.com/2011/12/mythbusters-cannonball-map/)

What's the biggest problem facing this country today?
But to get back to the real question, "Too many Democrats."
-
What's the biggest problem facing this country today?
There are many and almost all of them are self inflicted. After some thought, not too much but I would say the size and scope of the federal, state, and local government.

Wait.
You watch MB for the experiments?

I don't know about ALL of the South, but us hillbillies don't' watch people blow shit up on TV, we do it ourselves.

Getting my own sammiches and refreshments.
First we give them the right to vote and now we need to get our own food.
It's UnAmerican, I tell you! :argh:
-
It was a show debunking urban myths, that was the premise.
Urban myths are the heart and soul of the DUmp so strange they would like the show.

Ahem...

It's science, dammit!

If DU-member TXC is such a Mythbusters fan, why is (s)he speaking of the show in the present tense?
...
Further, what kind of Mythbusters fan is TXC that (s)he seems unaware of White Rabbit Project (https://www.netflix.com/title/80091245)? (And yes, Sarge and BD, Kari is on the show)
-
Theory: Hillary was "the most qualified candidate ever"
Prediction: She had "the blue wall" and would clean Trump's clock in the EC
Experiment: November 16 election.
Result: She got creamed.
Conclusion: She sucks.
-
As far as MythBusters being over, Science Channel is apparently going to be running a competition series to select a follow-on team to keep it going, it's not actually dead yet.
-
Mythbusters has been on TV a long time. People get bored. YouTube, Netflix, and other streaming platforms have really taken off since the show first came into existence.
And then there's the problem of the New York Times, All the 'News' that's Fake to Print.'

Another reason to sign up for Netflix!

This DUmp thread brought to you by the morons who "proved" that 9/11 was an inside job using cinder blocks, chicken wire, and kerosene.
