...he takes office - almost DOUBLE the number Obama could after winning in 2008
Donald Trump will be able to fill more than 100 vacancies in the federal courts when he takes office next month.
Trump will walk into the White House as there are a total of 103 empty seats on courts, in addition to the lingering Supreme Court vacancy after the death of Antonin Scalia.
The triple-digit figure is staggeringly almost double the number President Barack Obama had to fill - 54- when he replaced George W. Bush in the Oval Office.
Conservative leaders are already hoping Trump will pick people to further push their ideals on a number of key issues - such as gun control, women's health and rights, immigration, and voter restriction, the Washington Post reports.

I expect Obama to try to finagle a bunch of "recess appointments" before he leaves, by attempting some dubious lawyering to try to evade the 2014 USSC decision. The Senate will need to be on guard not to allow Obama the opportunity before he slithers out of the White House...

Donald Trump is set to inherit an uncommon number of vacancies in the federal courts in addition to the open Supreme Court seat, giving the president-elect a monumental opportunity to reshape the judiciary after taking office.
The estimated 103 judicial vacancies that President Obama is expected to hand over to Trump in the Jan. 20 transition of power is nearly double the 54 openings Obama found eight years ago following George W. Bush’s presidency.

U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts on Monday rejected a New Mexico lawyer's long-shot bid to force a Senate confirmation vote on President Barack Obama's Supreme Court pick, Merrick Garland, after Republican senators refused to act on his nomination.
Steven Michel, a Santa Fe environmental attorney, filed suit in U.S. federal court in August, arguing that the Republican-led Senate's failure to act on Garland's nomination deprived Michel of his rights as a voter under the U.S. Constitution's 17th Amendment, which outlines how senators are elected.
The U.S. Constitution calls on the president to nominate Supreme Court justices, with confirmation of the selection in the hands of the Senate. The Senate, in a move with little precedent in U.S. history, simply refused to consider Garland's nomination, saying the winner of the Nov. 8 presidential election between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton should make the pick.
Michel lost in lower courts before Roberts denied the emergency application on Monday without comment.

Harry Reid’s ‘NUCLEAR OPTION’ BACKFIRES – Means Trump Will Appoint 100 Judges Immediately
The Democrats keep losing!
Remember in 2013 when Harry Reid used the ‘nuclear option’ to confirm judges?
Harry Reid’s new rule was that no filibusters could be used to stop judges below the Supreme Court. All it took was a simple majority to confirm them.
Harry Reid changed a long-standing tradition in service of Democrat partisanship.
Fast forward to 2017. Republicans will have a simple majority in the Senate. And there are over 100 empty judge spots below the Supreme Court.
Professor Jacobson reports:
There currently are over 100 vacancies in the federal appeals and trial courts.
As Philip Rucker and Robert Barnes at WaPo write, that will allow Donald Trump to reshape the federal judiciary rather decisively and quickly, Trump to inherit more than 100 court vacancies, plans to reshape judiciary:
“Donald Trump is set to inherit an uncommon number of vacancies in the federal courts in addition to the open Supreme Court seat, giving the president-elect a monumental opportunity to reshape the judiciary after taking office. The estimated 103 judicial vacancies that President Obama is expected to hand over to Trump in the Jan. 20 transition of power is nearly double the 54 openings Obama found eight years ago following George W. Bush’s presidency.”
That’s over 100 judges to be replaced by a Republican President.
