3. If I have folks overnight for Christmas... I'll just put some porridge in the slow cooker.

A ton of steel cut oats, some flax seeds, small dice some apples, raisins, some cinnamon, nutmeg, and all spice. A bunch of water, and splash of white wine, then put that sucker on low over night. As folks wake up, they can just ladle a bowl... I leave out some syrup, granola, etc...

The DUmmie went on to say that if they overindulged they wouldn't have to worry about feeding people/horses.

1. ...Went grocery shopping yesterday - picked up a pound of scungilli (marinated northern conch) and some live quahogs for steaming. Instead of tea last night, I had a cup of hot quahog juice. Ahhhh, nice to be "home".

Ummm.....how about a nice glass of Scotch?  Or  a lovely glass of wine?

2. Back from an extended stay in North Carolina. On the way home,

I picked up huge bunches of Russian kale and turnip greens. Tonight we're having field peas,
greens, red potatoes, and cornbread.

Of course you are Japple!  That's all you eat, night after night.

Asparagus-toasted walnut salad.

For dessert, hot chocolate and a couple no-sugar almond cookies.

That reminded me of "Little Girl who Lived down the Lane."  "It's the almonds."

I just thought this was funny as bad writing:

4. Gulf trout

caught by my grandson with lemon butter sauce from the NY Times.

Good fishin at the NYT!

Then somebody talked about chicken soup:

3. The chicken soup was delicious

With one exception, I followed the recipe precisely. At the very end, I substituted spiralized zucchini for the egg noodles. Zoodles cook instantly. I recommend a splash of sherry vinegar with the chopped herbs at the table.

"Zoodles."  Makes me want to throat punch this DUmmie.

After reading this I was expecting a Dummy to tell us that he/she/it served his/her/it's guests a bowl of southern fried mud.

Even with their tales of cooking/eating, the first liar doesn't have a chance.  It's always the game of "Can You Top This?", with none of the entries sounding even remotely edible.

They try so hard to be 'superior' - Yes, let's eat overpriced, nonsensical foods so we can claim to be 'better people' !

Here's a hint DUmmies - there is usually a reason the crap you eat isn't available at most restaurants. - its because nobody would be willing to pay for it. - It has nothing to do with intelligence, good taste, or anything remotely along those lines. - If a world class chef can't make a buck off of some of these nutty concoctions, then they are probably not worth making in the first place.

But that's not the point is it ?

No - many of you are passively showing your fellow DUmmies what badasses you are by hanging out in the ethnic food isles of Robber Joe's and Whole Paycheck.

It's very sad, the demise of the cooking and baking forum on Skins's island, which Ms. Vanderbilt-Astor, the NJCher primitive, has been so valiantly trying to so hard to revive, but the best she can do is keep it on barely-life-support.

For those who weren't around, there was a time the cooking and baking forum was the fhird-busiest forum on Skins's island, eclipsed only by General Discussion and the Lounge.

It was a buzzing beehive of activity, and many of the Top DUmmies of this year or that year had hung around there.

The best thing that happened there was when Wild Bill, the hippyhubby primitive, compelled his wife, Mrs. Alfred Packer, the hippywife primitive, to leave the group.  She was paying more attention to the cooking and baking primitives than she was to her own husband, who tended to be the jealous, possessive sort.

Mrs. Alfred Packer was notorious for her negativity her hate and rancor.

The worst thing that happened there was when dear old sweet Lu, the Lucinda primitive, was named hostess of the forum when DU2 came into being.  Dear old sweet Lu seemed so full of promise, but she fell flat almost immediately.

She made it clear that as hostess, she didn't have to do any work.  She could just sit on her ass all day long and have the drone primitives do that.

This was preposterous, considering that in real life, all the other cooking and baking primitives had jobs and families to tend to, keeping them busy, while dear old sweet Lu was merely a stay-at-home housewife with no children whose husband worked nights.  Meaning of course she had all day to keep the forum going.

Because dear old sweet Lu failed to motivate by example, the drone primitives quit working too.  If the boss wasn't going to put out, why should they?

And so now the once-thriving cooking and baking forum's about as active as a nursing home at midnight.

I'll confess.  The peanut butter was actually part of the DUmmie's dessert, but when I read it fast it looked like it was part of the casserole.   :lmao:  So I did some creative editing just like our esteemed MSM would do.   :lmao:

No, it qualifies Karin to be an MSM reporter covering Trump. Selective editing of quotes is a core skill. OTOH, her sense of humor and honesty would be a yuge disqualifier.

Yeah, I made the same mistake...it's one of those things that no normal person would do and would normally elicit a double take and a careful re-reading, but considering the source is DUer, not exceptional because it's entirely plausible that one of them would do that.

It's because the primitives don't produce them like they used to.

Hell, there was a time that if one checked the cooking and baking forum, and then went back about an hour later, there was a whole different front page, full of new threads.

Now there's maybe ten threads a week, if that many.

I dunno why the primitives don't like to cook and bake any more.

Might be that they simply ran out of weird crap to claim they eat.  Has to be tiring always trying to out do some one with a type of food most people haven't heard of and even fewer would eat.

Part of the problem in the What's for Dinner threads is Japple.  She has the same thing night after night.  Field greens, beans, and corn bread.  Aren't her family ready to kill her?  I wish pscot would post one of his very pretentious recipes.  They're a hoot.

Field peas are not blackeyed peas (unless this is a regional linguistic thing).  And stop it with the cornbread!  Every night the same damn cornbread!

And what the hell is smoked salt?  Salt is a mineral.  A little piece of stone.  God, she drives me nuts.

Actually, whenever I break out the smoker, I usually smoke some salt.  I have a water smoker, so the smoke mixes with water vapor and semi-dissolves the salt.  When it re-crystallizes, it has a little smoke flavor.  I use it on pieces of beef no DUmmy could ever afford.

6. Maybe if they focused on healthier, or, gasp, more vegetarian, meals that would help.

Everywhere we eat out, which is about 4 times a week, my husband and I have to tweek orders to not use sugar laden sauces, and cut the bacon, chicken stock etc. We are regulars at several good restaurants in town, so they know how to accommodate us here, but when we go to other areas it is a struggle.

Too lazy to fix meals for themselves so eat (expensively ) out most of the week.
Probably bitches about the rich all the time too.

Restaurant meals are tailored for what the vast majority of normal people like but of course these arrogant dip shits want a gourmet one on order and then would bitch if the price was higher.

Hey moron-ette! The reason there aren't more vegetarian restaurants in your area is simple. Not enough people want vegetarian to support a lot of vegetarian restaurants. Curses! Outvoted again!

Hint: find a couple of good Indian restaurants. Even if they serve dishes with meat their vegetarian dishes were probably prepared in a separate section of the kitchen, using pots, pans, and utensils that have never touched meat (which is what their strict-vegetarian Hindu customers demand).

A great scene from "Down Periscope", relevant part starts at 1:00, but don't skip to it!

BTW, the boat is a real, Balao Class, WW2-vintage submarine. It's the USS Pampanito, a museum at SF. That scene was probably filmed in Suisun Bay, near Benicia and Martinez.
