Here is how NYC can recoup Trump's security expenses.
New York should seize Trump Tower

Froufrou Fifth Avenue resembles a police state.
Officers wielding gigantic guns guard Trump Tower, where President-elect Donald Trump conducts all transition business, and soon lots of presidential business, too. Shoppers patronizing the stores, cafes or public gardens inside must endure layers of security screening. Streets and sidewalks are barricaded; traffic is snarled; and costumed buskers milk money from the looky-loos obstructing the entrances to Gucci and Tiffany.
The challenges of securing this 58-story building in a high-density neighborhood will, by Inauguration Day alone, drain $35 million of local taxpayer money. Who knows the additional costs to commerce and property values?
The feds have thus far been stingy about footing the bill. Fortunately, I’ve come up with a solution that should warm the cockles of the president-elect’s heart: New York should use eminent domain to seize Trump Tower.

1. Do it
Trump will through the biggest tantrum we've ever seen. He may commit a crime in the process

Funny they never cared about the costs of kink barky jet setting around the world on endless vacations.
Security on most of those were one offs.

You're right, PGR, they just keep on digging.

IMHO, if they are "wielding" them, they aren't big enough.
They should go get some of those toy sentry guns like my boys had and paint them a really scary Army green... watch the NYT field guys scatter and cry every time they start tracking. Of course, those only shot plastic discs and nerf darts, but hey... that's an AK47 in a reporters mind.

Another in a very long line of DUmmy hair-brained ideas. De-fund the Bush White House, turn their backs during the State of the Union, de-fund Secret Service, blah blah blah. Bang pots & pans to drown out W. Yeah, never happened much less worked. Kinda like DUmmies, never work.

Just a few quotes from the WAPO comments...

I'll take the Hillbillies over the pseudo-intellectuals who are morons and don't realize it....Not to mention they are whiny little babies, too. Grow up.

NYC must not have any Christian Bakers to persecute.
Catherine (can you get more "white-privilege" than Catherine?) you are what that large sea of red between NYC and LA despises so much about the status quo, politically correct, passive-aggressive, Leftist, totalitarianism.
Thank you for keeping it fresh in everyone's minds. There is nothing like a strong affirmation that the country made the right choice.

The never ending stream of liberal tears is amazing. I figured they would have gotten over their shellacking by now and lefties would have turned their attention to the next bright object but nope, the mourning continues. Hilarious!
Kind of sad to see the Washington Post has become an outlet for the silliest sort of childish pouting

This is one of the most inane opinion pieces I've ever read, and most appallingly because there's no evidence it was written with Ms. Rampell's tongue pressed to her cheek. What a juvenile display of the Trump Derangement Syndrome that has afflicted the left since election day.

And Ms. Rampell's complaint being principled rather than partisan, I'm sure she's posted numerous editorial pieces complaining of how Obama's motorcades shut down streets and freeways every time he visited the "ATM Machines" all over the US. Seriously, no national level D (or R) pol needs to campaign in CA. Obama's visits to CA since 2008 have all been fundraisers, plus or minus a token visit to some place like Solyndra (http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/05/26/president-obama-visits-green-energy-start-up-solyndra/).
