I'm going to have Christmas dinner with relatives
who all voted Trump. I'm going to be outnumbered about 30 to 1.
I don't like to argue but I know someone is going to start talking cheeto.
Do I argue back or just let it go?
I've been having dinner with them for the last 20 years.
This is the first year I'm dreading it...

1. You could prepare to leave
Either go home or decamp to a motel or come back in an hour and ask them if they're done. You could tell them you have no intention of ruining the holiday with politics, how about them (insert sports team)?
Or you could come down with the flu and not go at all.

5. I'll go.
But changing the subject is good.
I may just start out saying anyone that talks politics and I'm outta here.
It's worth a shot.

2. Go armed to the teeth with facts and history.
The stand your ground.
That's what I have decided to do at our townhouse board meetings.
Was not pleasant at the first one, but I refuse to let these f*ckers get away with blathering their ignorance into the air I must breathe.

4. In my family, there are rules against discussions
of politics and religion at family holiday gatherings. We just don't do it. Instead, we talk about what we have in common, which is family. It's been a rule for as long as I can remember, and any violations are quickly ended by common assent.

6. My honest question to you is:
Why go? Why subject yourself to such misery.
If you really see no way out of it, can you convince whoever is hosting that no politics should be discussed at dinner? Although if everyone else is a Trump person, I can't see that happening.
Of course, as Pangaia said, arm yourself with facts. And do not back down.
I still say, don't go. But if you do,

12. My husband's got the opposite problem
He will be having dinner with his wife, two daughters, and their spouses, all of whom voted for Hillary. He knows better than to bring up politics, with us. Five against one.
I suppose you can just change the subject to keep the peace, as the only Republican in our family has done for years. Husband doesn't like all these women ganging up on him, including his lesbian DIL. SIL won't help because he voted for Hillary too.
You have my sympathy.

21. You could always talk about guns
I'm guessing shadowrider is a gun supporter by that comment

23. I could
but they aren't gun owners.

32. There are several threads you could refer to regarding what to do
1. Go and shame every single one of them. Never back down and never apologize
2. Disown your family. Real liberals must draw the line and disown family members that support racism, sexism, homophobia, islamophobia and all the other deplorable things of that side.
3. Go and be chummy with them, but don't come back here, and don't call your self a liberal because this stuff is not tolerated at all on our side!

My advice to you is to alienate your entire family. They are scum sucking ReTrumplicans that do not deserve your exalted, enlightened presence. Throw your dinner across the table and scream that they are worthless idiots that have brought this country to its knees. Then storm out.
Trust me... you will show them and turn them back to the dem side.

The primitive probably accepted the invitation before the election and thought that Cankles was going to win in a landslide and had planned to rub all the rethug's noses in it.

Tell them they are all stupid racists...that usually converts us. :)

4. Go home and call local NVDK or STASI office to turn family in for bad speak or contraband.

Amazing how, all of these infants, seem to have nothing but Trump voters for relatives.
Strange.....

I would just add to the advice, throw your dinner plate, fully loaded, against the wall, narrowly missing someone's head. Democrat outreach! #Caringsharingcompassion

Holy shit. My mom came into my room to bring me a plate of chicken nuggets and I literally screamed at her and hit the plate of chicken nuggets out of her hand. She started yelling and swearing at me and I slammed the door on her. I’m so distressed right now I don’t know what to do. I didn’t mean to do that to my mom but I’m literally in shock from the results tonight. I feel like I’m going to explode. Why the ****ing **** is he losing? This can’t be happening. I’m having a ****ing breakdown. I don’t want to believe the world is so corrupt. I want a future to believe in. I want Bernie to be president and fix this broken country. I cannot ****ing deal with this right now. It wasn’t supposed to be like this, I thought he was polling well in New York???? This is so ****ed.

And yet before the landslide they didn't know any Trump supporters.

Only a DUmmy would have a problem meeting with his family.
Love is so alien to people who worship government. He cannot shut up for one night.

4. Go home and call local NVDK or STASI office to turn family in for bad speak or contraband.
5. Act like an ass at dinner and be asked to leave. Go down to basement and make up bouncy complete with total family conversion. Bonus points for talking the cop in the bushes into leaving the force and permanently moving to Standing Rocks.

Another vote for having a major fit and stomping out.
Your entire family will have a good old fashioned gut-busting laugh over it and you'll be the fuel for fun for years to come.

Don't go away mad. Just go away!
