Title: Favre says of situation: 'This probably isn't going to work'
Post by: Wretched Excess on August 05, 2008, 02:01:54 PM

this has actually gotten worse since favre and mccarty met.  obviously, green bay isn't interested
in putting the best 22 players on the field. :whatever:

Favre says of situation: 'This probably isn't going to work'

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre went into a meeting Tuesday morning acknowledging that he was at a "stalemate" with the team and believed the "best thing for this team is for us to part ways."

Favre left practice shortly before 3 p.m. ET Tuesday, telling ESPN's Wendi Nix that he was not going to practice. He said there would be another meeting with his family and Packers GM Ted Thompson to discuss trade possibilities, in the hopes of resolving the situation. It was not clear when that meeting would take place.

"We're at a stalemate," Favre said. "Mike and I both agreed last night that me being out there is a distraction and will continue to be a distraction. We all know the reason I'm here is because the commissioner [Roger Goodell] reinstated me so we have a lot of things to figure out. It's simple and complicated, both at the same time."

Favre said the team once again rejected his request to talk to teams about a trade within the NFC North, preferably to the Minnesota Vikings or possibly the Chicago Bears.

And while Fave left without practicing on Tuesday, sources told Nix that his wife, Deanna, and his agent, James "Bus" Cook, were encouraging him to practice.

agree,..care to wager what the response in GB will be when Favre is traded?..Better yet, what is the over/under that Thompson retains his job should Rodgers falter as Favre's replacement?

Piss Favre off and then really watch him torch GB if he plays for Minnesota

if I were GBs headcoach &/or Brass...

I'd be saying

F**K BRETT FAVRE....

trade his ass already & if favre REALLY pisses off the brass, they will trade him to oakland, houston, atlanta or detroit....

how does that sound brett ?? :lmao:

get this, this whole mess is FAVRE'S fault, not mccarthy's or GB's management....

well, management may be to blame since they didn't get favre under control a decade ago, but, anywho  ....

who else is SICK n TIRED of the soap opera that is brett favre ?? :whatever:

yeah detroit would be a nice fit.... :lmao: ... honestly....if favre wants to be himself (the show), he needs a pass happy offense & that is DETROIT....not da bears or vikes..

I really cannot see GB trading Favre to somebody in their own division that can kick GB's already (vikes & bears, not detroit), then w/ the addition of favre, adding salt to the wound...

hell brian greaze's bears whooped GB's sorry ass last year, so I can only imagine what AP's vikings w/ favre at QB would do to the packers  :-)

TB is a pretty good move for Brett.

I'd consider the Bucs to be the "worst" team that would be acceptable for Favre. (TB has a shot at the playoffs at least)

The Rams would be fun for him also ? (10 teams would offer a chance  to compete to start )

Bulger is not to shabby (when healthy) but yeah, I could see Brett doing very well there if he earns the start. (if the o-line protects him at all, lol)

But speaking of the NFC West, what about Favre in Arizona!  :o

D!ck swinging contest between Favre And Thompson.   Who won is still to be determined.

Favre detests Thompson and always has beginning with Thompson drafting Rodgers.

If Rodgers gets hurt and the Packers go 0-2 to start the season then expect a big mess in Green Bay.

I have to agree and these super stars with their big egos give me a case of the pink butt. Pretty soon the second string players are going to demand 10 million bucks per year to warm the bench. When these guys salaries go out of sight and the games are only on Pay TV, that's when they lose me as a fan.

He should keep his word and retire before he gets seriously injured. The dumb ass is liable to wind up in a wheelchair.

Yeah, and if he ends up with the Vikings on that artificial turf then he'll definitely have a higher chance of being hurt badly.

Favre wants another ring, plain and simple.   He saw the talent that the Packers have this year and wanted to give it one more try.   I don't have a problem with that.

However, he should have decided before the draft.

Brett, stay home brutha.    Just stay home and kick it with your wife and family.

Favre leaves Lambeau, maybe Packers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-packers-favre&prov=ap&type=lgns)

-snip-

McCarthy said he and Favre made plans to speak later Tuesday evening, but McCarthy didn’t seem to allow for the possibility that anything significant would change.

A trade could be coming next, with Tampa Bay re-emerging as a potential destination after seemingly being eliminated from consideration in recent weeks.

Packers officials have believed throughout the past month that Favre’s preference is to play for the Minnesota Vikings, but Favre could reconsider a trade to Tampa Bay—or elsewhere—if Green Bay holds firm in its commitment not to trade him to a division rival.

McCarthy wouldn’t address trade talks, but did say a quick resolution to the situation is important to the rest of his players.

GB management didn't want him, but didn't want him in the same division, or even the same conference.  seems like
a contradiction to me.  the packers built into the trade a "3 first round draft picks" penalty is the jets turned around
and dealt him to the vikings, by the way.

and I assume that the new stadium that the jets are set to open, and selling season tickets, had a lot to do with why
they wanted favre so badly.  say what you will about him, he's still a huge draw.  fighting for market share with the
giants, especially since they just won the SB, has got to be tough.  this creates instant buzz.

there's a flip sode to this coin, by the way.  aaron rogers hasn't proven to be the most durable QB anyone has ever seen.
he came in for favre two years ago and broke his foot.  he was out the rest of the season.  and after the admittedly decent
game that he played against dallas last year, be blew up his hamstring and missed several weeks.

he (would have) missed more games last season than favre has iin 17 years.  that really does mean something at some point.

say what you will, you corporate whore ( :-)), but packers management hasn't exactly acted manly during this affair.

they're the ones that filed false tampering charges against the vikings, tried to buy favre off with $20-odd million in hush money,
and pushed a demonstrably superior QB out of town in favor of an unproven QB with a history of injury problems because they got
their man-boobs in a knot.  if favre wanted to push it, he would have stayed in camp, outplayed aaron rogers, and dared TT and MM
to bench him.  they had already caved in on the open competition question, and their lack of balls would have compelled them to
start favre over rogers as well.  not to mention the fact that they apparently forced him to make a decision in march, when they
KNEW he would probably retire;  the whole stinking episode was probably preordained.

ultimately, favre left GB because he had more respect for the organization and it's fans than management did.

MM and TT were obligated to put the best team they could on the field.  they chose to not do that.

Make yer' predictions now. I say 7-9, 8-8 max, no playoffs for Fav-ruh and company. I just hope he makes it all the way through the season uninjured.

I'll go 9-7 w/ the Jets easy schedule & the few nice additions they've made (gholston, faneca, RB, Favre, special teams) ...

but they ain't gotta chance in the playoffs if they were lucky enough to get in...

ain't no way they're getting by the Pats 3 times, the Colts, Jags, Chargers or prolly even the Titans....

the more I think about favre as a Jet, the more I think he's gonna CRASH n BURN like never before....

think about it...physically, favre has always been a stud & still is...

favres problems have always been MENTAL & now he's playing in THE most high pressure place on earth, in a totally new system, totally new team, totally new city/cultureetc.etc. ...

he'll need at least till the end of this year to really get in tune w/ his offense/team, playbook & system...

this could be really uglee, specially if you consider defenses will put MAX pressure on him knowing that he's a fish out of water right now & that the Jets running game SUX....

watch brett favres eyes/face before games he's CHOKED in last season (cowboys/giants), he looked scared, stressed & lacking confidence...

thats the same look I saw on his face on the Jets sideline last night...

mentally, he's gonna crack & he's most likely gonna look like brett favre of 05' ...

too bad, I would've liked to see him go out as a packer & on top...
