Title: A 2nd open letter to Skinner: Get off your A$$ and do something.
Post by: Mr Mannn on November 12, 2016, 12:46:22 PM
You're dragging this out way to long. Either do something or pass the reigns to someone who will.
Geeze Louise, your lounging about is pathetic.

Hurry up or I will burn my mole and alert on you, and believe me: you WILL get a hide.

I see he hasn't added anything to the 503 page since yesterday.

Before that, he was putting them up faster than one could read them.

I think he's slacking off; I think he doesn't plan to have Skins's island up anytime soon.

He is biding his time collecting emails railing at him to ban as well as refreshing the database to sell.
He knows his satanic spawn and how obsessed with screaming "look at me" (why they,as Karin points out,all have to start their own treads about the outrage of the moment) so he is dangling the line for those who desire recognition.

Also understand it can serve as an enormous mole trap.

Only one mole?

Can't trust anything you read on the internet  :-)

Any lurking DUmmie who actually believes that site was hacked is a blooming idiot. He took the site down early because he KNEW she was going to lose and didn't want any kind of internal war going on.  He had the internals and knew it was a lost cause.

If the site was truly hacked, you wouldn't be able to get to it. Instead, you can get to it but you're met with an index page. I did the same thing on a website I had a while back. When I didn't want anyone to hit it, I'd put up a page indicating "changes" were being made and we'd be back up shortly.

$kimmer, for some reason, doesn't want his website up. It may never come back.

Liberals. Disgust. Me.

In response to Mr. Mannn's OP, skinner has posted an update on the sad state of the DUmp.

Yes, the DUmp is still a DUmp.

And not one of the Three Amigos can get it up.

Having read over his explanation again, he claimed he was on at the time of the attack and "immediately" shut it down in response. He said the attacker exploited a vulnerability in the forum software.

But if Skins was on when it happened, and shut things down immediately, wouldn't it been true that the attacker had been there before, had already found the backdoor, had already written whatever codes would need to be placed, and knew exactly where to go to place them and get out before Skins could shut things down and block them out? And if that is the case, shouldn't something have already been in place to alert the admins that someone had been in the site in places they shouldn't have been able to go, and that there was a backdoor somewhere that wasn't closed, and they needed to find it and plug the hole?

He makes it sound like someone found a secret entrance, went in and inserted code, and got out, as if the infiltrator had never been there before. I just don't believe that. I would have to believe the infiltrator had practiced going in and out of the site several times in the past to make sure when the time came that they knew exactly what to do to be successful.

This stuff is not my area of expertise; not even close. But I'm betting one of you could explain what likely happened in layman terms. I'm interested in how it probably took place, the prep work, how they knew what code to do and where to place it, etc....

Please explain.

I am far from any sort of expert on the matter, but it seems to me that someone could have implanted whatever code there was some time ago, and just set the code up to "time bomb" at a specific time, in this case just a couple of hours before the polls started closing on the east coast.  If I were a hacker and my intent was to do as much fiscal damage as possible (denying ad revenue, etc.), then that's when I would strike, and I would probably want to make it such that I could get in and out and not really leave any "fingerprints."

Of course, that's looking at DU in a vacuum and doesn't take into consideration anything like any sort of internal strife at DU, so those factors would change a lot of calculus, the first of which is: why bother taking down a site that was potentially on its way out anyway?  If DU was already on its deathbed as a social site, then why even bother hacking it?  May as well hack MySpace or CompuServe, for all the good it would do.  It would be the very embodiment of flogging the proverbial dead horse (or jackass, in this case).

I haven't been around DU enough lately to have a good feel as to whether the place was a goner.  Frankly, it just isn't nearly as amusing as it used to be.

I don't think it was a hack at all. I think Mr. Moskwa had access to the internals and knew Pickles Von Cankles was going to lose. Rather than have an all out war erupt, he simply shut it down and put up an index page.

I suspect as much, hence the second paragraph.

So many possibilities.

But if it was done, it was well planned, not just off the cuff as Skins would like everyone to believe.
