Title: Manny seems to have turned on his DDOS protection again
Post by: Ken8521 on November 08, 2016, 05:46:05 PM
Isn't it kinda stupid to turn this on and off?  I'm wondering if he's really suffered a DDOS attack (as common sense would say, if you have, leave your protection on all times)..

All you can really do is throttle HTTP req and http post floods that might overload the web service. It does nothing to stop a pure distributed bandwidth attack.
The side effects of throttling, or tarpitting, is that it slows page loads down a LOT and start eating RAM and open sockets on the stack. it's a pick your poison sort of thing.
what happened to them a while ago has nothing to do with req overloads or a DOS... someone gained access to the system and modified the html code somehow. hehee. i wish i knew who did it, it was pretty damned funny

Well said.

As for here - I'm keeping an eye of things, so far, so good. Things are slow, lots and lots of traffic and much screen refreshing, but everything is stable. There is no attack here.
