White Males Don't Get It /Their Future Is W/Democratic Party & Unions.

If white males had a lick of sense they would understand that being in a union, having a job with a social contract and being with Democrats is where their future lies. All this nonsense about minorities taking their jobs is a myth. What they fail to understand is that the power of the federal government through the Fair Labor Standards Act and the right to bargain is where they will have success. They ever will get anywhere with the GOP model.

Their fathers and grandfathers prospered when they had long term jobs, job security and a pathway to a pension. The GOP has pretty much destroyed all that since Reagan. And what the GOP and business has done is exactly why they are in the pickle they are in. Of course all of what I just said is too complicate for someone who thinks at the 4th grade level and has all this excess testosterone.

Restoring the social contract in employment is the only way the middle class will ever prosper. The "task rabbit" and "trickle down" economy is really suicide and leads only to economic oblivion for reasons too long to address here.

Their paranoia about the government taking their guns is overblown. The GOP is the one who would take their guns. Just look at what happened after Katrina.

So the angry white mail has it all wrong really because the more they support the GOP the worse it will get for them. And everyone else.

1. I'm a white male. I get it. I have an executive job, but I get it.

I don't, by the way, own a gun or drive a pickup. I have never owned a gun, and I never want to do so.

I never bought into trickle down.

I wouldn't be so quick to generalize about "white men."

5. Shit

I'm a white male too. I'm a Telecom worker so I travel a lot. Have plenty of conversations with white dudes at the hotel, job site, etc. And, I gotta tell ya, I am quick to generalize about white men. Based on my experience, a whole lot of us are ****ing idiots. Sure, there are a lot of you's and me's. But, in our demographic, you n I are a minority.

2. Unions are not what they used to be.

Most of the time they are in bed with the employer. I and a friend and some people I know got nothing from their union but a boot in the ass. We paid monthly dues and were told to go to hell. For the rest of the things you mention I agree.

3. It's not about policy for them.

It's a label, a club, a tribe. Since the voting right act and civil rights act, the GOP has become the party of white people. Period. White priveledge has given them the "priveledge" of not having to be informed. Add in a healthy dose of propaganda, ala fox news and a.m. radio, and you have a whole lotta white folks voting against themselves.

4. White males have had the biggest ****ing over in the last 40 years

They're the majority of the people who held the good factory jobs supported by the good office jobs. Factories left and mergers decreased the number of good office jobs as the corollary to "greed is good" was "leaner and meaner management."

Wages for white males have taken the biggest hit, mostly because everybody else was already working for depressed wages, kept low by "last hired, first fired/laid off" and mommy tracking most women into dead end work with low wages.

I understand the rage that most of them feel. I don't understand how they can be such suckers for the party that did most of it to them.

Until it dawns on them just who has been ****ing them over--and it's not POC or women fighting over crumbs--I'm afraid they're going to continue to be suckered by demagogues who encourage them to hate everybody but other white males.

Guys at DU have figured it out, it's why they're here. Unfortunately, the vast majority of their brothers are still stumbling around in the dark, being fed a steady diet of total bullshit and it's tearing this country apart.

I can't hate the angry white men, they've got damned good reasons to be angry. I hate the crooks who are leading them around with propaganda parading as news.

The economic stagnancy of the Obama years is to blame for plummeting life expectancy rates among white, working-class Americans, according to former president Bill Clinton, who privately told Democratic donors that lower-income whites “don’t have anything to look forward to when they get up in the morning.”

TMN is living in the past, the 1950s and 1960s. Those lifelong, set-up-a-nest-in-the-factory-attic-'cause-I-can't-be-fired, union jobs have largely priced themselves out of the country or out of existence. And the trend looks bad for many/most of those yet remaining.

Painting with a somewhat broad brush, in the 1950s US factories were relatively new or updated - plant and equipment - and reasonably skilled labor plentiful. EuroLand and Japan had been devastated - factories and population - and painfully rebuilding. US companies could not locate operations offshore. Nor, OTOH, did they have much foreign competition. So they pretty much had to buy labor peace. Warpy has it pretty close as to timing, in the sense that things started going downhill for unions and heavily unionized companies in the mid-60s to mid-70s. Foreign competition was online - capacity and staffing - their workers were not arrogant and feather-bedded like many US union workers, and their quality was challenging US quality.

Libs' and Progs' attacks on American Auto and Steel companies (for example) came at the worst possible time, forcing companies to deal with regs written by activists (rather than people who understand and care about the industries being regulated) when the companies needed to devote resources to adjust to the world's changing industrial environment. Companies' money was dumped into complying regs that were designedly inflexible and punitive.

Speaking on a personal level, last spring my employer informed the people of my division that the division was being moved from the SF Peninsula city where it'd been since its founding in the 1930s, splitting operations between a facility in PA and a facility in Orange County, CA. The given reason was that the cost of housing in the SF Bay Area - a product of growth-limiting government, Enviro-@#$%, and NIMBY - made recruiting talent difficult. So I had a choice - move to SoCal or find a new job. I was offered a very hefty $$ incentive to stay until the move and then move to the facility in SoCal (1/2-3/4 of a year's salary!).

If I listed the reasons I chose not to move, the first would be not wanting to move to SoCal. The second reason on my list - this :bouncy: does have a point - would be that the SoCal facility is unionized. BS union work rules? Possibility of having to go on strike every time the contract is up for renewal? Possibility of having to strike in support some other union in or doing business in the facility? My pay and job security being based on seniority (and I would lose ~6 years seniority by moving)? Just! Hell!! NO!!!

So I moved on rather than moving. My new job is the best I've had this century, probably since the late 80s or early 90s. And it's non-union. IOW, exactly the kind of job TMN either believes doesn't exist or believes should not exist.

I have spent the last 8 years being told by the Democrats I am the sole source of every ill in the world simply beca8se I was born white. Now this delusional jackass of a gangster supporter tells me my future is with the same party. I hope  his final days on earth are slow and painful.

SVPete is exactly right.  The one foot wonder is delusional...he thinks all those union jobs are just floating around out there, with white repukes refusing to take them.  I'm so glad it worked out for you and you love your job.

I remember a long time ago, my dad was quite distraught...they were attempting to make the engineers at Westinghouse, of which he was one, unionized.  He considered himself professional, a holder of patents.  To be unionized?  It was an existential crisis.  They ended up not doing it.

Thanks, Karin! Silicon Valley, where I live, has been a center for electronics since the 1930s at least, decades before silicon or germanium semiconductors came into usage. Not that I'm that old. As best I know, there is just one major company in the valley that is unionized, Lockheed. IOW, all the hardware and software tech-goodies that are significant parts of how we live our lives were created by non-union people. I don't think TMN would willingly and gladly wrap his head around that fact.

On another tack, does anyone know where TMN gets this Race Card nonsense?

Let me see if I have this correct. The "angry white male" (as liberals define them, a myth; but for the sake of illustration we'll use the phrase) would be better off with unions and collective bargaining, so join the Democrats who are funded by Wall Street and large multi-national corporations (which according to the liberals, are evil), the same WS and multi-national corps that hate unions.

OK.  :mental:

Wonder how old hopalong is doing this morning?  Did he stroke out I wonder?  Did his other foot escape the boiling rage?  He's vowed over and over again to not be nice to GOPpers or to be anywhere around them.  I'm hurt and was looking forward to his deep abiding friendship.  We could have had so many good times together.   :bawl:

As the sun gently rose over the plains east of Westminster, Ol' Bob hopped into the traffic lane on US 36 and was promptly liquified by a truck loaded with wooden table legs.
