Voter Suppression Is a Much Bigger Problem Than Voter Fraud
Trump’s rigged election lies distract from the real threat to American democracy.

Donald Trump’s refusal to commit to accepting the legitimacy of the presidential election is an unprecedented attack on the foundation of American democracy and rightly drew widespread condemnation from political and media leaders.
Yet many Republicans, while condemning Trump’s comments, still stoked fears of a rigged election after the third presidential debate. “Let’s not kid ourselves, can we please not act like voter fraud and irregularities don’t exist,†said RNC Chair Reince Preibus. “I don’t think you’re going to get Republicans to back down on the fact that voter fraud is real and it needs to be dealt with, but it isn’t something in most cases that overthrows an election.â€
................................
This is a dangerous false equivalence. Voter fraud is a very small problem in American politics and voter impersonation, which GOP-backed voter-ID laws are meant to address, is exceedingly rare. As I’ve written over and over, you’re more likely to be struck by lightning than impersonate another voter at the polls.
The real danger to American democracy stems from GOP efforts to make it harder to vote. New voting restrictions—like voter-ID laws, cuts to early voting and barriers to voter registration—that are in place in 14 states for the first time in 2016 will make it harder for millions of eligible voters to cast a ballot. And voters are lacking crucial protections because this is the first presidential election in 50 years without the full provisions of the Voting Rights Act.
That is the problem we should be focusing on. Take Wisconsin, for example, where Preibus warned of “voting irregularities in Milwaukee†last night. Wisconsin didn’t present a single case of voter impersonation in court to justify its voter-ID law. Yet 300,000 registered voters, according to a federal court, lack strict forms of photo ID and could be disenfranchised by the law. “It is absolutely clear that Act 23 will prevent more legitimate votes from being cast than fraudulent votes,†wrote Judge Lynn Adelman. Another federal judge in Wisconsin, James Peterson, wrote, “A preoccupation with mostly phantom election fraud leads to real incidents of disenfranchisement, which undermine rather than enhance confidence in elections.â€...............................

1. My teeth grind everytime ..
They are all such hypocrites. And PLEASE don't tell me we deserve them because we voted for them.
Nobody deserves this. It's easy to recognize this new breed of GOP now, but we were the test for the take over and we were blindsided. Who could have envisioned the Party of Lincoln turning into a lying, cheating, sack of deplorables?
Besides we didn't all vote for them and worked really hard against the real rigged system.
The OP claims that 300,000 registered voters lack the proper ID to vote in the upcoming election--since a leftist is claiming it, I'll assume that it's a lie.
Assuming that there are any registered voters that don't have the right ID, how do they expect us to believe that they couldn't find the time to make one trip to the DMV with the needed documents at any time during the last 5 years?
It was signed into law in May of 2011--more than 5 years ago.
How could someone be blindsided by a law that was passed 5 years ago?
If there are any shiftless layabouts that weren't able to get their ID in time for this election, they need to buckle down and get their shit together and maybe they'll be good to go for 2020.
-
My guess would be that their might be as many as 300,000 miscreants wandering around WI with open warrants. If you are afraid to get a state ID because of warrants or non-citizen status tough titty.
-
Preventing voter fraud is voter suppression to the left.
-
So 300K Wisconsins don't have bank accounts, credit cards, and can't get government freebies. They also can't buy alcohol, cigarettes, and many fromerly OTC drugs.

Machines are under the Soros umbrella of corruption.

I simply don't understand the logic pretzel the left always relies on regarding voter ID. One needs an ID for damn near everything else in society. Air travel, cash a check, buy certain pseudoephedrine products at Walgreens, government benefits, job applications, beer or cigarettes. But voting...hell no!!! That's racist & disenfranchisement.
To quote Colonel Potter, "horse hockey!!!"

Not only was the law passed 5 years ago, but the delay of implementation is largely due to a contentious (= highly publicized) lawsuit that was decided at the end of July, leaving the heart of the law intact. Even if some one lazily chose not to get usable ID for the 5 years or so when implementation was on hold, how hard is it, in the months since July, to have gotten driven, take a bus, or walk to a DMV office or other place that could issue a proper ID. The difficulty of travelling 5 or 10 miles doesn't change with skin color! Some one that damnably lazy has thrown away their right to vote.
And, BTW, when I first voted in CA, I had to show picture ID. It was my CA drivers license, which I've had continually (= renewed) for the nearly 40 years I've resided in CA. That requirement was ended back in the 80s, unfortunately.

Oh now, it's always been obvious why the Democrats, liberals, and primitives are against voter identification.
It makes it easier for them to cheat, to defraud, to pad the vote.
Surely everybody understands that.
Yeah, sure, proper identification's needed for other purposes, but being consistent and applying rules equally across the board doesn't concern Democrats, liberals, and primitives.

Frank, I am quite well aware of that.
But they use the issue as a complete red herring. Emotions over reality, symbolism over substance.

There is no logic to their argument. There is no logic to any leftist position, whatsoever. Pure, convoluted emotion aimed at semi-functional retards willing to prostitute themselves for imagined free things.
Love them useful idiots.

Oooops, sorry; I didn't mean to come off as so sharp, especially not to you, sir.
Me, I'm supersensitive about the issue, because no one, no one period, seems to question the motives of Democrats, liberals, and primitives in wanting to have a wide-open voting system, when we all know what it is. It helps them cheat.
I think their motives need questioned, loudly and repeatedly.

No worries, Frank.
Observing the nutcase internet keyboard warriors and their fellow leftist media types have made their painfully obvious agenda & narrative clear.

My question is this: Did they not have to show ID to register to vote? Maybe if they are like 80 or so... I could see that... but then wouldn't they need ID to get SS?
-
Voter fraud is a very small problem in American politics and voter impersonation, which GOP-backed voter-ID laws are meant to address, is exceedingly rare.
Actually we have no idea, because the agencies that would investigate it, in the places it would be likely to occur (Large Democrat-controlled urban areas) are all controlled by the party that would benefit from it, so virtually no serious investigative effort has been invested in examining it as a problem.
-
If you think about it, it would be damned hard and inconvenient to live life without a photo ID. You couldn't do anything in this day and age. It would become so intolerable you would make your way to the agency that issues them, come hell or high water.
I really doubt 300,000 people in WI live this way.
-
I'd point out that you can't do an I-9 without photo ID, except ........
-
If this was really about people unable to get IDs the dems would be having a massive effort to get these 300,000 potential voters the proper IDs. The fact they are not doing that seems to show they are more concerned about having to show a valid ID rather than actually having one.
-
My guess is this 300,000 are those bused in by Hillary surrogates from Iowa, Illinois, and elsewhere. But I'm guess the union thugs from Illinois already have 'valid' IDs secured for them by corrupt liberals in Madison and Milwaukee.

Based on a quick google, there are approximately 4.8M adult residents of WI. Even if all of them are otherwise eligible to vote (doubtful), they're claiming that 6% of the state population doesn't have a driver's license? Free Voter ID card? NOTHING?

I don't think that they need to be questioned. I think that they simply need to be pointed out.
We all already know why the Left is so opposed to voter ID. Everyone knows it, including Leftists. It's well past time to question their motives because they're not really subject to question anymore. It's time to simply state facts as facts: Leftsts oppose voter ID for the SOLE reason that it would interfere with their systemic voter fraud. That's it. Nothing less.
If there truly is no voter fraud, then literally NO ONE is hurt by voter ID. Not one single person, anywhere in the United States.
