Channeling my inner George Carlin...but how can one work for & respect a boss named "Robby"? Sounds like a guy running the fry machine. Did he think it was just a novel idea to stick with his childhood nickname rather than ask to be called Robert or Bob?
Disclaimer: No offense to anyone whose real name is Robert, Rob or Bob. It was my grandfather's first name. But to go by "Robby or Robbie" in a professional setting seems awfully idiotic.

I agree, although it's probably cultural, both of us having been born and raised in the upper Great Plains states, where a boy takes his "man" name about the time he's 10-12 years old.
I can respect that it's a southern tradition. We had our own "JohnnyReb" here, to whom I always referred to as "John." I just didn't feel decent, addressing a man whom I greatly admired, by a boy's name.
In real life, if I really knew and interacted with this character, I'd call him "Rob" to his face--"Robert" or "Robin" being a little too formal, but better than his little-boy's name--and he'd grow to like it.

Agreed!

You're aware that the Bostonian Drunkard was raised by his elitist mother to abhor being called "Bill;" it just sounded too common. He really despises "Bill," and so goes by "Will."
That's why I refer to him as "Bill;" he shouldn't be so stuck up.
And there's the William769 primitive, prominent among the supporters of Messalina Agrippina, who was born and raised in rural, or near-rural, Kentucky (but now lives in Florida) who goes by "Bill," but because he has more class and more manners than the Bostonian Drunkard does, I call him the better-sounding "Wills."

Yeah, and aside from that, what the hell kind of a last name is "Mook?" Isn't that a mild pejorative?
I did have a boss named "Johnny" once; he was southern. He managed to pull it off. Robbie, that's just babyish.

And not a wise choice of names for an adult male who doesn't look old enough to shave.

I'd be that his husband likes it enough. :whistling:
