Oh my.
First, the Canadian primitive, who wants clemency for ghoulish mass-murderers:

What's the difference between all the "F" class fighters?
And are all of them being used these days?

6. Current: F/A-18, F-16, F-15, that's all.
F-22 and F-35 coming on board, as soon as we're willing to bankrupt what's left of our economy to pay for them.
F-14s are retired. The A-10 and EA-6B are still soldiering on, as is the S3 Viking (the one bushyboy rode in onto the carrier to show us how accomplished the mission was, and how much he could stuff the front of his flight-suit pants).

8. f-18s are used the most, right?

9. Yeah, that's what the Navy has standardized on. The new "super" version actually has some decent range (which the earlier models lacked), so they're planning to use them as jammers to replace the EA6B Prowlers (carrying the good old ALQ-99 jammer pods, which the same I helped design a long time ago).
My only question (and I have a professional interest in this) is if the attack version of the Super F/A-18 will be able to fly in the kind of horrible weather that the A-6 could. It was legendary for that.
It's actually a pretty big bonfire, with photographs of military and other aircraft.

I saw the F-22 at Sun-n-Fun in Lakeland three years ago. Met scott there and had a good time. Wow! What a plane!

And it only took 30 years to develop a plane that could finally best the F-15, a plane that was developed in 10.
Nothing against the F-22 -- there is no question it will rule the skies for the next decade at least. But it seems to take us forever to get to "the next level" since the can-do days of the 60s and 70s. Hell, the Navy us using a modified 30 year old airframe in the (Super) F-18.
Incrementalism and :"t is too BIG to do" whining has been the watchword for everything since then.

Dummies shouldn't talk about things they hate while knowing nothing about.
This comment by the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive intrigued me.
.....and I have a professional interest in this.....
The deal is, while the lying titty primitive, the best pal and friend of the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive, has saved the world more times than one can count, to the best of my knowledge, the bird-smacking stoned red-faced primitive himself has never alleged military duty (or saving the world).
Perhaps he has, and I missed it.

"F Class fighters."
AHHH-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
*gasp*
As opposed to what other kind of fighters?
:rotf:

I love how he says the A-10 is still "soldiering on". The F-15 and F-16 are just as old as the A-10.
And dumbass, we have several fully operational F-22 squadrons now.

That would be the "B" class or Business class fighters.
Remember, in bong resign filled DUmmyLand, anything you can imagine is real.

What about the F-117.............just to get around treaties.
And my god...............to bring the Prowler into this....................an aircraft that has been around as long as Undies.

I never understood why the 117 was classified as a "fighter". I damn sure wouldn't want to dog fight even a Mig-17 in one. They're not supersonic. They should have been named A-117's.

FWIIW, they are preparing to retire the F117 in the next year or 2.

Something to do with the Geneva Conventions or what not. We are only allowed to have so many differant types of bombers (which is the role that the F-117 really fills). We're allowed to have as many differant types of Fighters as we want though. So we slap the F in front of it and "consider" it a fighter, but then let it fulfill it's role as a bomber.

"F" class fighters?
The "F" stands for "fighter", idiot. It used to be "P", stood for "Pursuit". And the "A" stands for "Attack", in this case ground attack.
Dummies shouldn't talk about things they hate while knowing nothing about.
Ditto! H5

No, he only takes over when the plane is auguring in and the entire flight crew is dead from fish poisoning. They mentioned some guy as a "flyboy" who has yet to ring in."
My point is that I, alone, who is a civilian, knows more about Miljets than the Primitives and we have many here who are real miljet experts and more than a few miljet pilots.
Bottom Line: Real miljet people don't post on DU.

Stealth, thrust-vectoring, supersonic, loaded with munitions, yeah, you can kill a lot of squirrels with that sumbitch. :-)
Only thing, I don't know if it has any hard points(to connect bombs, missile pods, fuel tanks, etc), as that would kill the stealth capability, so I think it's pretty much limited to being a fighter. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. We do have a lot of flyboys on board.

From what I understand, it can be equipped with hard points, but like you said, it does greatly increase it's radar profile. They'll probably only be used it war situations like what we've got now, where our air power is being used for CAS purposes only.

The external hard points are optional and configurable, at least according to this , http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/f-22-weapons.htm .

I saw something on Jim Dunnigan's Strategy Page to the effect that the Air Force is trying to get internal hard points to put GPS-guided 250-lb bombs on the F-22.

Really?
The AN/ALQ-99 has been used during the Vietnam War (1972-1973), 1986 American attacks in Libya, 1991 Gulf War, Operation Northern Watch (1992–2003), Operation Southern Watch (1997–2003), 1999 Balkans War, 2003 Second Gulf War, and 2011 Operation Odyssey Dawn.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/ALQ-99
Let's see: Redstone born in 1954, AN/ALQ-99 deployed in 1972. Hmmmmm, that would mean that the late DUmmie would have been 18 years old when these were first deployed to be used in combat (according to the link). Now, I haven't been on the R & D level of military hardware, just a lowly end user but one thing I do know is that it takes a good bit of time between the drawing board and deployment to troops in the field.
So, one would have to wonder how it is that the late DUmmie was able to pull off being the John J Rambo of heavy equipment contractors at 19 (1973) and having been on the design team of an airborne electronic warfare package (presumably) before he was out of high school.
That can only lead to one of two conclusions:
A - He really is a sooper genius, badass, save-the-day, working class hero type that dabbled in many things across many spectrums.
Orrrrrrrr.....
B - He was a lying DUmbass that read something on a website (ie EA-6 Prowler overview) and decided that it would be a good idea to somehow attach some much needed and otherwise missing greatness to a relatively shallow and non accomplishment filled life without thinking it may come back to bite him in that ass.
RIP, "Redstone". Wherever you happen to have landed in the afterlife, I can only hope the fellow souls there are as gullible as the mouth-breathers at the DUmp.

Well, you know...we don't want to confuse them with the B-class bombers, UH-class utility helicopters or even the AH-series attack helicopters.

Thanks for the illumination, sir; I appreciate it, because as JakeStyle here will verify, this has always been a source of confusion to me, about the late Redstone.
I know next to nothing about the military--other than simply to trust them, because they haven't ever violated our trust--but it always seemed to me Redstone was a little bit too young to do what he alleged to have been doing.
His obituary in the newspaper, and other newspaper articles about him, describe him as either "57 years old" or having been born in "1954," which is probably an indisputable fact, and so your option "B" seems the most appropriate.
