Obama Signs On to Three Debates

ORLANDO -- Barack Obama today accepted the bare minimum number of presidential debates, three, along with one vice presidential debate, virtually closing the door on the possibility of a slew of appearances that John McCain had proposed.

"Due to the late date of the two parties' nominating conventions, and the relatively short period between the end of the conventions and the first proposed debate, it is likely that the four Commission debates will be the sole series of debates in the fall campaign," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe wrote in a letter to Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr. and Paul G. Kirk Jr., co-chairs of the Commission on Presidential Debates.

Early this summer, both McCain and Obama held out the possibility of a unique presidential campaign, when McCain suggested the candidates appear together at a series of town hall-style gatherings. Obama said he would entertain the idea, but after a cursory round of talks, the Obama campaign opted out.

In a statement, the McCain campaign said, "John McCain looks forward to debating Barack Obama as often as possible, but it's disappointing that Senator Obama has refused his offer to do joint town hall meetings."

Wait, isn't that the same excuse the Obama camp gave when they backed off McCain's townhall proposition?

he will reverse himself on this, too, if his numbers don't improve.  he is running like a guy with a steady 15 - 20 point lead, but in reality, he is a guy that has watched whatever lead he may have had disappear completely, if not actually become a deficit.

I'm wondering is they're thinking about going back to just "hope and change"...

Pretty much.  The hussein mssia-uh doesn't stand for anything so he can't speak without weeks and weeks of preparation.  Maybe if he wasted less time trying to lock up the European vote.

Fortunately for him, he didn't have to waste a lot of time on the dead vote -- he had that one wrapped up.

the news i heard today said that they were in a dead heat, McCain has eroded O's 9 point lead cause he's successfully managed to paint O as a celebutard-hollywood-elitist.

which is all true..

From Politico via Crush Liberalism:

In response to Obama’s continued cut and run from any joint town-hall debates, a McCain spokesman says this:

"We understand it might be beneath a worldwide celebrity of Barack Obama’s magnitude to appear at town hall meetings alongside John McCain and directly answer questions from the American people, but we hope he’ll reconsider," said Brian Roges, a McCain spokesman.
